...Now to insure the bloody thing. Just been quoted over £6000 by Adrian Flux! So much for their "young drivers shouldn't be milked" crap they go on about.

Cheapest quote so far is £2100 from Admiral.

Anyway, it's a 1.6 Eunos. Bought it for £900. I wanted a UK spec 1.8 in red, but for the money, I couldn't say no. Other than a minor dent or two it is in great condition and I think it looks fantastic. smile

Nice, at least it's a eunos 1.6, so 115hp compared to the uk ones 90hp !

Good luck with the insurance.

90bhp was only Mk1 1995-1998 1.6. Up until then they were the same 114bhp as JDM cars.

Looks like a nice one you have there biggrin

Nice motor Dax!

I've also got a Mk 1 insured with Admiral, and have found them to be very good - if they're the cheapest you've found then go with it! thumbup

How old are you? I'm 20 and I'm getting quoted £700 from Admiral on an 2007 2.0i Sport... Your quotes seem a tad high unless it's your first car?

A bit late for you but I found UK cars much cheaper to insure when I bought mine (I was 21 and it was my first car). Try and find an insurer that doesn't mind that it's import?

Yeah I got quoted £1600 for a 1.8 UK spec car. Ah well. I got a good deal on the car, and I'd rather have the import 1.6 than the UK 1.6. (Of course, a UK 1.8 would have been nice...)

Direct line never treated them as imports when I was looking. Worth a shot. Im with flux at the moment. Was shocked this year when my renewal for 97 1.8 with suspension and exhaust mods came to £150. Its limited mileage and im 31 but thats silly cheap for a sports car

Nice looking car by the way

think you got a better car than a 1.8 uk, nearly every uk spec car I have seen are rusting pretty badly now. If you can get a recent import they're in so much better condition, also they tend to be a lot nicer inside with more toys.

Nice - looks almost exactly the same as ours that we bought for similar money just a few months back... ours turned out to be "S" spec', not that I knew it at the time.

Quantum sold. the bloke who bought it should be picking it up some time over the next two days.

Mx5 will be insured on the 13th of this month for £1900. Not too bad...

Good stuff Dax, glad you have your insurance sorted, even if it is a hefty chunk of money - but it'll come down next year! smile

Who'd you get the insurance with in the end? I'm asking because I had a hell of a time getting insurance... I bought my first car aged 37, I had zero no claims, and it was an import. No-one would touch it! Those that quoted quoted silly money...

In the end, Admiral came to my rescue, I showed them that I was insured on my parents car, with full no claims, and they transferred that over to my new policy. All good stuff, enabled me to get out and drive! driving

Better yet, when I renewed this year, I had their quote, and then told them about the modifications I'd done (new suspension, uprated exhaust, etc), expecting to be shafted.. and it made no difference, same quote, £100 less than last year! smile

Anyhows, enough wittering, enjoy your car when you get her out on the road! thumbup

Glad to hear its all going well mate. I insured mine with lancaster insurance, it's a limited mile policy but was exceptionally cheap, I also have zero no claims, the reason I'm telling you is you may want to give them a go. I did all mine online and was insured within 10 mins.

I would have posted sooner but apologies as I've only just read your topic.

Yeah it's a big chunk of money but nothing that I wasn't expecting. Admiral was my saviour too, the next cheapest was £4000!!

I may look into that, I haven't yet taken the insurance, I have just got the quote saved and I was going to buy it this weekend.

Just buzzing like mad to get it on the road now!!

I just went on to get a quote and they only insure people over 21.

I feel discriminated against. frown
