Hi all. First post in the MX5 forum so please be gentle. Can anyone tell me if the 'powershift' auto 'box fitted to newer UK MX's is a traditional torque converter gearbox? I can't find an answer anywhere!

Mrs FarQue really fancies a late model MX but circumstances dictate an auto 'box - and not for obvious 'girlie driver' nonsense reasons.

Some really good info on this forum so far. Thanks.

Have you tried asking on the MX5 Owners Club forum? I suspect they'll know the answer on there as they probably have the larger quota of MK3 members, and thereby the powershift model. Roadster Robbie is the technical expert so will no doubt tell you the answer.

Yes, it's a conventional torque convertor transmission with electronic control allowing the use of 'manual' mode

I also drive an auto for medical reasons and own one of these, it's a great auto box in my experience.
