Strange ticking noise

Hi guys, I have just started to get a strange loud ticking noise from under the bonet. Happened yesterday and this morning, only on a cold start up, lasts about 10-15 seconds then just goes. Car seems to drive as normal, idle all ok. It's a prolonged tick.

Any ideas, I've read some bits on the hydraulic valve lifters but not really sure what the issue is, any help is greatly appreciated, cheers.

Hi, Sounds like HLA tick.
Autolink have some good info about this.

Mine had the same thing last winter. I changed the oil, and it continued for a day or so, then settled down and I've not heard it since.

Haha, funnily enough it does sound like that but faster

if it is hla tick, then a few oil changes with mobile one 0w-40 fully synthetic will sort it.

mine hasn't ticked for the last two years!

The other common cause of a tick is a blowing exhaust gasket or manifold.

Thanks for advice guys, it's in at the garage, getting it waxoiled while it's there too.

Would appear so, all is ok, cold oil in the sump, once it's made its way up its all good.
