I'm also after something similar. Lots of cheap ebay ones on offer, not sure if any of them are any good though.

Be very, very wary of cheap covers of your going to leave it outside. They do a very good job of destroying your paint work without you realising.

If it's because the car is leaking, fix the leak! I'm good working order an mx5 should be totally watertight.

If you do want a cover, then I understand that it's worth paying for a decent fitted type, with a soft lining.

I would have to agree - covers are just going to trap dirt and moisture, and then when they move around they'll just move the dirt and destroy the paint.

A friend of mine recommended a bed sheet, and then a cheaper cover over the top as an option (change the sheet every now and then as it will soak up the moisture).

Not sure if anyone else has tried that, but it worked well on his MX5 over the last few winters.

I'm just looking around for covers now, or will keep the car on the road and play in the snow if funds allow smile

The trouble with a full cover is that the car needs to be clean before the cover goes on. Not practical for a daily driver. I've used a hood cover for the last three years to keep the most vulnerable bit protected. Keeping a decent layer of polish on the paint will do for the rest. A good compromise. Just remember to wash the bottom of the car as often as the shiny bit!

I had a loose fitting cover over my Vincent before I bought the MX5 and it was fine until we had some strong winds. In the space of one night it managed to graze the paint on the wings, boot and door tops even going so far as to rub through the paint entirely on one section of bonnet.
On the other hand, whilst "repair the leak" is sound advice it could cost several times more than throwing a cover over the car - often not worth the cost on a cheap car when any paint damage could be T-cut out or blown in with a spray can come the better weather.
Alternatively... fit waterproof seat covers, throw the carpets away and ignore the wet... biggrin

The Halfords Advanced range of car covers are actually very good, and the small size fits an MX nicely. They were on promo a few weeks ago too, got one for £45.

I bought an MX5 Breathable cover from an Amazon supplier for c.£20.
It's been used since earlier this year and though no frost/snow so far it seems to be pretty durable.
The fit is "comfortable" but my Mk1 does have a body kit.
I use a spring plastic clamp (ex- Screwfix) at each corner to ensure even the highest winds won't detach it.
HTH.
Cheers, Pewe.
