Hi all, your opinions please. Had a recent service at the Mazda main dealer
and everything was ok. I mentioned that the gearbox from 1st to 2nd seemed to
" clunk" a little bit.... if thats the right word. Not so much when up to temp, and was told they all do that sir
wait until the summer and the weather is warmer and you wont notice!!
My car is a 2lt 08 plate hard top. Do they all do this???
It just feels not as smooth through the gears (1 to 2) as other two seater cars I have owned.

I've had two, and they both did it.

They were also both noisy - to the point that you'd think a bearing was shot, but TADTS too.

Changing your boots and turret oil may ease it a bit.

Mine does it too, especially when cold.

Mine does it too when cold, so did my old one. I changed the gearbox and turret oil (Mk2) which made it slightly better, although there wasn't a massive difference.

Molyslip in the box....it does work, not snake oil. I use on every car I have owned . It will take a few hundred miles to bed in but you will notice a huge difference as long as there is good in oil there in the first place.. Put in my recent purchase MK3 already better.

We heard you the first time smile

In all seriousness though, I'd suggest if you are going to do that you wait until your car is out of warranty. You don't want to give Mazda any excuse to void a warranty claim.

Very rare I have one new enough for warranty concerns...

Mine does it too. When it's cold, the first change from first to second can be a real bugger. It's fine once warm. Oddly, it seemed to be more noticeable after the gearbox oil was changed at the last service...
