Ok so I've not had the car more than about a month. And it's decided to flood the boot with water.

Where on the MK3 (06 plate) does the water usually get into the boot?

(Tried a good search as ph search is down and no good answers were forthcoming)

I don't actually know as it's never happened to mine - but have you checked the drainholes?

Not yet. I didn't know if the MK3 would still have such things or if a better solution had been implemented. No sign of wet carpets in the cabin that I noticed though.

I'll find something to stuff down them.

I've found some info that early MK3s had an advisory to fit revised drainage but that was for cars pre April 06 and mine is a June 06 registration.

Ok so I can see lots of water behind the drivers seat. Under a plastic cover with 3 or 4 slots in it. Is that the new "hole". And the old wire coat hanger despite being poked into the water cannot find any soft area to push on it's all solid plastic tray.

How do I find the hole in a MK3?

Mahahahhahaahha I think I cleared it a bit. Had to stop for a burger prepared by the wife part way through. But A puddle appeared below the car. smile

Hi Munter
whatever you do, don't feed upwards
Always feed down
Co-ax cable is very good - as is curtain cable stuff.
They are awkward to locate on the Mk3s
The one behind the passenger seat is much easier than the one behind the driver's.
Well, it was in the case of mine.
You'll need to shift a piece of material (mind blank for a mo, sorry) and it'll reveal quite a small hole close to the seatbelt tower.
If i have a chance i shall try (try being THE word lol) to take a photo of where mine is on the passenger side - if that's of any help but i doubt i'll get it up before late this evening.

Re leaks - if you ever have footwell issues(esp passenger side) just holler.

Pob lwc smile

eta: just located both really easily
am at work so can't load photo but have taken a couple of shots
(pls turn a blind eye to the dust wink)

Thanks for putting the effort in Trefy5!

I think I found it earlier. I just need a wider item than a wire coat hanger. I think my brother might have some solid 3 core flex....

Munter - see this thread on miata.net:

http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=389787

And buy one of these trombone brushes:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Flexible-Cleaning-Brush-...

The water in the rain drains backs up, and then leaks in to the boot, and into the passenger footwell. The guy I sold my mk3 to has just discovered this issue as he doesn't have a garage for it, whereas it was always garaged in my ownership so didn't have "prolonged" experience to heavy rain.

Okay
That's good.
Just to add the footwell issues that mk3 owners have are not always drainhole-related.
A new windscreen fitted can also lead to the same.
I believe miata.net also has info on that.

Couldn't find the drainage holes on mine on Saturday, spent over half an hour looking for them. Looked on the Miata forum link and mx-5.com forum but still can't find the buggers. I was trying curtain rail and some flexible wire I have. Anyone able to take some decent photos? Or anyone know how easy it is to remove the trim above them?

Thanks.

Are you going in almost horizontal?

I got them going through the square hole almost horizontal and slightly towards the center of the car

Hi all, if you shine a torch between the gap in the trim you will see the hole (it’s about half an inch in diameter toward the square hole that you will feed the cleaning impliment through). I tried all the usual recommendations, (curtain wire, coaxial cable etc. etc.) but you need to buy a trombone cleaner and this will do the trick. Do NOT be tempted to pull it back into the car as this will almost certainly jam the rubber flap that prevents road noise. When the cleaner exits the drain hole under the car, continue to pull it out. Do this two or three times to fully clear the drains if a lot of debris comes out. Then, every 12-18 months (depending upon whether you park under trees), re-clean them. Hope this helps.
