1991 mx5 limited edition- Rare i think pls help?
Discussion
Hi all, got my first mx sept last year, it is a 1991 limited edition no: 106 of 250. 15 inch bbs wheels brg paint tan leather wood wheel and gearknob etc plus elec windows and pas. it was originally only 1 of 25 allocated for special overseas tax free sales and owned by a guy in the army stationed in germany. he brought it back to Northern ireland in 96 and it was registered as a uk. it is uk spec. i was wondering does anyone else know of another of these specials that still exist and does anyone have any more info?
I have already seen the article on Bournes mazda webpage but the site how many left.co.uk does not feature this model.
It is in fairly good nick but does require some floor weldng to pass M.o.t. Today 27/6/11 other than that it's great. since had it i have upgraded headlamps fitted strut brace, replace gear gaitor, ht leads, refurbed wheels which now look amazing, replaced o/s central locking actuator, new pads front , discs pads and calipers rear, next is to repair drivers seat bolster has small hole but not major and rest is remarkably good, In 08 think then owner had break-in so a new hood with heated rear glass screen was fitted and i also have a load of receipts for stuff over last 20 years. I have original leather wallet with ltd edition brass plate and certificate of authenticity.

There's a few of these still knocking about - I've had at least three pass through my hands in recent years. Lovely spec but those wheels (unique to this model) are a swine to clean.
The biggest issue with these is rust and I fear many of these will have been scrapped by now. Not a bad investment if you can find a godd one and keep it that way.

Thanks for your post about it, the wheels altough not too bad as the pic suggests were in quite a bad state! Have had them fully chrome powder coated now, not entirely keeping original but def look good now, my car will never achieve mint status- at least not with my meagre budget! I will soon post some fresh pics with the wheels as they are now.
Hi, you are not alone! I have no. 148 which just passed it's MOT yesterday so should be good for at least another 12 months. 166 is for sale at and there is are at least two more on mx5Nutz. There were a couple for sale recently on ebay but both needed a fair bit of work and only one had the right wheels.

There is a chap local to me who has one,and as had her from new, but he sold the wheels on,which is a shame(kicking him self now)she is not in bad nick realy for her age for a UK spec Mx/roadster that as lived here all her life.
I think i have a set of those wheels???time for a search me thinks in the bat cave.

It does have remote central locking, retro fit with a cat 1 alarm by a previous owner.
Had to change the drivers side actuator last year as it failed but was a 20 min job.
Yours in good shape?
yh its not too bad just needs a good clean and mine has a factor alarm and immobilser but no central locking i was just wondering if it should have it or not?? Had to change the drivers side actuator last year as it failed but was a 20 min job.

If you look at the 1st reponse on this thread i had there is a link to the model.
Don't think it had central locking as standard. Mine's sorned for winter now, i have removed the cam cover and inlet manifold to clean and respray body coloured. I also added style roll hoops earlier this year.
Will never see the money back but me and my dad don't mind. Yours still on original wheels? Mileage?
