Starting to look at CSLs now w/ intention of purchasing in next few months.
I will be on contract in Ireland for another 2 yrs and plan to sell it after that, so want something that will quickly move.

I'll probably put about 20 000 miles on the car w/in those two years.

Which do you think would be easier for me to sell on with minimal depreciation in 2 yrs: a car that I bought for around £30k w/ around 30k miles, or a £25k car with 60k miles?

And if anyone's planning on selling their car in late summer, shoot me a PM

So depending on which you choose, you'll be looking to shift a 50k miler you put 30k in or 80k miler you put 25k in.

I would probably go with the latter - depreciation curve levelled off more. It's likely you'll pick up a 60k miler now for 23k and you'll likely get 20k back with 80k miles. Putting another 20k miles on a 30k mile car will hurt you in the pocket more at resale IMO.

There seems to be two quite distinct buying groups right now of under 30k mile cars and all those above this level. The first seem to be buying to keep as garage queens, the latter to track them or just that they are falling to an affordable price for a wider pool of punters.

Agree with Yanto

Sb 30k CSLs currently have a hot Market, whereas over 30k cars it is just warm.

If you put heavy miles on a sub 30k car you will loose more on resale by quite an amount.

Ideally I would go for BMW warrantied 50-70k mile car

I'd also agree that the higher millage car is less likely to significantly devalue with an extra 20k miles on it

I bought mine a month ago 50k miles for £22k and was hoping that after a year and 15k miles I could end up loosing very little, trouble is after about a week in the car I'd decided I want to keep it forever, first car I've owned thats made me consider selling my E30 M3.

'kin'ell - £22k!!!

The cheapest I saw was the black Potter's Bar which IIRC was just under £24k. There's another one in North Yorkshire for £24k as well.

Or did u manage to bargain it down to £22k?

I asked on here about a car a charles of windsor and got an E-mail from a guy down the road who was looking to sell his, private sale probably helped keep the price a bit lower than the dealers and didn't have the hassle of advertising etc. IMHO a number dealers seam to want dealer premium without providing and service and chucking in a crappy warranty so private sales from people who know the history of the car are good as far as I'm concerned.

I had mine checked over by Munich Legends and there was a few bits needed / could do with being done so I went for it and have a bit of cash in reserve if I need it, main thing was the diff in it's not great but I'm happy to swap it out for a used one which is going to cost around £500 if it gets worse. Few other little bit like a broken rear spring and a few stone chips but all in all not a great deal wrong with it. It had and new discs and pads and inspection 2 within 4 or 5,000 miles which was a major plus point.

I wrote a long e-mail to the dealer about the car in potters bar ( think it was that one anyway ) asking for various details about the history and condition, brakes, tyres etc etc and I got a couple of line response along the lines of lovely car with history come and see it. Even when I phoned about the car no real info was forthcoming and I just couldn't be bothered to drive for 2 hours to look at a car if the dealer could provide any info over the phone.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply Andy

I live in Ireland, and made a trip over there basically just to look at the car. I rang them 2 wks prior, and the bloke on the other end of the phone seemed as if he wasn't interested at all. Then I got there, and same thing. I asked him if I could get a p-ride in it at minimum, and a v. nice E. European chap went out w/ my cousin and I. Luckily, he didn't seem to know what was going on so he let both my cousin and myself drive it.

To my mind that sort of service raises all sorts of red flags but it was one of the cheaper CSLs around.

Just checked autotrader and apparently its still for sale, which is weird because the listing on PH disappeared so I figured it was sold.
I think its been there now for at least 6 months.

Anyone know anything about it?

Some tw*t replaced the blue and white propeller BMW badges w/ black and white ones but other than that IIRC the car was quite clean and in good condition.
