Hey Shimmy.. I have an aftermarket carbon box right now with a conical K&N on it.. but on dyno mapping last week we believe it's not breathing as well as it should and my guy couldn't map a couple of flat spots out.. so I wanted to look into trying another airbox as a fix.. apart from that theres the sound too..
These have always been top quality as far as s14 (E30M3) airboxes go.

I'm a bit rusty on all this sort of stuff but.....
If you have an engine that is running a MAF sensor then a CSL airbox will not help/work as the opening in the front is too big. The CSL ran/runs with ALPHA N software, that's how it can get away with the huge (And delightful)inlet.
A MAF sensor needs a (More) restricted opening so that it can get a good reading of the air flowing through it.
If the above bears no relevence to what you are asking then please ignore.

I believe you are correct, if you wish to fit a CSL airbox you will also need to get an Alpha N remap. One does not work without the other AFAIK which is why most CSL airbox installs are so expensive. If you have an engine that is running a MAF sensor then a CSL airbox will not help/work as the opening in the front is too big. Vac motorsports
I was looking at these a while back when I was thinking of getting another M3 but stuck with my subaru (glad I kept it now!)
I saw this on the M3forum.net and I think this is a guys car called 'Obiwan' so you can search on there. They seem to be actually getting tangible gains as well, unlike some of the other boxes out there. This would be the one I would go for and it sounds exactly as CSL, some vids of it somewhere.
