OMG did anyone see the noooob on Apprentice who was bragging about having a CSL to the guys.

When he asked them if their M3 was a CSL and they said no, he looked down his nose......only to see later that their 'Group' of M3's were all E90's and would p*ss all over his E46 CSL!

The CSL would definitely run rings around the E92! but im not to sure on straight line speed! I had a CSL with a DMS remap that dyno'd 381hp! but never got a chance to see the difference between that and the new gen m3's!!
but i think it would be very close !

What makes you think a 381 BHP car would stand a chance with a 414 BHP car?

You'd have no chance at keeping up at higher speeds, power to weight means very little over 80mph.

POWER!

erm... cornerspeed? Handling?

M3 CSL lap of Nordschleife - 7.50.00

M3 (E92) lap of Nordschleife - 8.05.00

Nuff said.

TopazDetailing wondered if a 381 BHP car would be faster than a 414 BHP car in a straight line, not round a track, of course the CSL is faster, as he says, but that wasn't in dispute, do try and keep up old chap

I think due to the fact that the CSL is considerably lighter than the M3, it would gain from the instant go and create a gap!, i am sure the M3 would then start to climb back but the question is - would it climb back enough to go past!. In my opinion i don't think so. smile

Let's start again...

On any track, the CSL is undoubtedly quicker than the V8 M3.

On a straight bit of road, the CSL driver would need powerful binoculars so he can read the V8 M3's rear number plate... The V8 M3 is embarrassingly quick for a lardy arse.

Identical power to weight ratio and same 0.33 drag coeffient so no, you're not going to need binoculars. They are going to be extrememly similar and small variables will make the difference.

This of course assumes the CSL is in the lightest configuration and the drivers are of approx equal weight.

Dunno whether you have seen it first hand, but I passengered in a DMS-ed CSL at the Ring, which followed a DCT M3 on the GP main straight. Both cars were side by side at the start and rolling in 3d gear, and went for it, by the end of the straight the V8 was 4 car lengths ahead... That is pretty significant in my book, but each to their own...

For the record, I don't like the new M3 and would have a CSL over one in a heart beat. Unfortunately a 5mth old baby and the wife dictate that it would have to be an E61 M5 Touring. Now, that is a A LOT quicker than either a CSL or V8 M3 in a straight line :P but also the subject to a completely different discussion...
