Had this itch for a very long time and keep coming back to it... prev had z4 3.0si, z4m and then the rs4 (06 17k miles) loving the power and flexibility (big boot, 5 doors etc etc) esp given that i have a 9month old daughter. I only drive at the w/e and if we are all going somewhere tends to be a lot of motorway driving and wife sits in the back... guess you can see what i am getting at.
does it work as a w/e car with young daughter and wife in the back... and what will i miss the most from the RS4 (power, seats, ride...?)
Also anyone got a low mileage mint one for sale?
cheers

Out of interest, how do you find the RS4 compares to the Z4M?

Love it... but obv v v different cars. Changed the Z4m as i had to but otherwise would have kept it... but in london driving a manual can get v v frustrating at times!

Performance wise, is there a noticeable difference?

My daughters put up with the CSL, my wife hates it! I'm running intrax which are a little hard but overall it is a fantastic car. If you said the occasional trip to the shops with the wife in, I'd say test drive one with her. If you do a lot of miles at the weekend, I'd say test drive one alone!

Hehehe...

haha... that sounds about right... but my conscience comes into play as it has no rear air bags. We do have another car that my wife uses day to day so this would be purely for the w/e.

The csl is just as fast in a straight line as the rs4' youbwill have no problem there.

In all honesty, I think your wife will get tired very quickly of climbing in and out of the back of a CSL. The seats are quite deep, even in the rear and it's not the easiest car to get out of with no handles on the roof and a seat that doesn't tilt forward very much and will come back on you if you try to use it for purchase.

After I've been in the back cleaning the windows or whatever, I feel like a right tit trying to pull myself out the rear and I'm 29 and about 12 stone so not an old fat guy.

If however, it's just for the weekend and your wife will only be climbing in and out once or twice then maybe she'll be happy enough with it.

Hope this helps.

Never owned one but been in one a bit, would say you really need to be committed to own one of these, they are quite stiffly sprung. The RS4 will be the much easier live with...and that engine sound....probably heresy to say so on here but that V8 is a true great...and better than the S54 even with the carbon shiney bits and Alpha N........

It is truly Epic and the only BMW I would ever consider owning after a Porsche.

Have not come across any other road car that can give GT3s a run for their money on track.

The ultimate driving machine.

the csl is slightly quicker than the RS4 it appears. not a great deal in it, but for weekend fun the csl will be the better bet. daily, i'd pick the rs4. i've never been in an m3csl, have spent approx 4k miles in an rs4 though, and 5-6k in an E92 M3. evo say the csl is one of the best m cars ever to drive. and they say the e92 m3 is better than the rs4....

skip to 1:20, though the csl appears to floor it marginally before the rs4, the rs4 never gains on it.

I've driven many CSL's, not an RS4 though.

I see no reason why you can't use the CSL for family needs, in fact the only think that would stop me is the getting in and out of the deep race seats, but I'm in and out of cars all day long.

Once your in though it's like any M3. I'd literally put it down to that.

The only other disadvantage is that they always want me to drive like a hooligan!!!!!!!

Once in they are probably one of the most exciting cars to own today.

If you are seriously looking for one send me a message.

The other big factor is that in my opinion they are not going down in price anymore.

plus, you'll never get tired of this noise (it's a csl, not a standard E46 M3)
