Opinions please - i've had my CSL for 3 years now - spent alot of money on it with specialists who know what they are doing (brakes, suspension, bodywork) - but now due an inspection II and loathe to take it to the local dealer because I am just not convinced that they will perform the best service (despite charging a stackload for it). So far I have a FBMWSH, but if I go specialist, and therefore not a Full 'BMW' Service history, is this going to impact on the value of the car..?

I take it that you don't have the 'BMW Insured Warranty' on your car then - otherwise you'd have to take it to BMW.

I've had an inherent mistrust of dealers since my e34 M5 days, and there's only 1 within a 60 mile radius that I actually trust to do any work (warranty or service) on mine.
For the rest it goes to a specialist.

However, come 60,000 miles and no extended warranty, I'd be going to a specialist for everything, as I can't believe there'd be much difference in resale value between a 60,000 mile franchised-dealer service histor and a non-franchised service history.

I've got stories of people effusing over their dealer with comments like "Dealer X is wonderful", "Dealer X always goes the extra mile", etc - only to disappoint the owner when I tell them that there's no way the dealer did their inspection 2 with valve clearances in the 4 hours the car was left there - and you've paid £1000 for them to arse-rape you. And they've probably smiled as they handed you a list of items that need 'urgent' replacement (like tyres with 'only' 4mm on them, pads & discs with 'only' 10,000 miles left on them, clutch that's on it's last legs, etc.).

Call me a bitter & twisted cynic if you like, but BMW dealers have made me that way.

This made me laugh - only 4 mm - so true. Also you're pads and discs are not new so muct be changed! Stealers.

Not sure where you are in the UK, but I hear great things about Murketts in Cambridge. As said, if you want to retain warranty, I belive it needs a stealer FBMWSH.

I hear Murketts look after c. 70 CSL's in UK.....one guy on CSL register travels from Cornwall to Cambridge to get his serviced....speaks volumes.
