.....that I will be looking at a CSL for the first time with a view to buy it yes
If I do buy a CSL, this will be the car that I get. It is a very well known example with a fair bit of hard use under its belt but I have been assured that it has wanted for nothing during the current owners keep.
Hopefully this will be the catalyst I need to 'clear my plate' so to speak as I have a plethora of unfinished projects and parts ( not to mention a more than unhealthy dose of old ste ) that needs to be disposed of into the bargain.
I have never owned a green car before and I must say it is not my favourite hue but what's in a colour 'eh?

Thanks for the offer Craig but I am reluctant to say who's car it is at present but what I can say is that it is not on the open market as such and I was given the nod by someone on here whose background and opinion I hold in the highest esteem and if HE says the car is the one for me, that will do nicely yes
If all goes well tomorrow I will be prepared to divulge the cars origin on here, wish me luck thumbup

^^^ Thanks again Craig, I really do appreciate your kind offer and hope I do not come across as an arrogant know it all but this situation is a little different to most as I was not looking to buy a CSL right now. This car 'just came up' so to speak and as it has had a lot of money spent on it modification wise I thought I would bite the bullet and spend now to save later. If I am honest, I am not really in a position to buy the car but A/ because of their rarity and B/ the car has ALL of the exact modifications I would like to have done given a clean sheet of paper ( and a small lottery win ) I feel it is worth putting myself out and going for broke on this one. If it doesn't work out then it wasn't meant to be I guess, I will let you know how I get on yes

Do your research as best you can.. ask around for the history of the car.. Unless you know where this car has been all its life, and it's track history.. it wouldn't be a bad idea to take a broader view on public domain knowledge.. as there are a few around with questionable history.. but either way.. good luck with it.. fantastic cars they are..!

See you on the track one day soon.. wink

^^^ All fair points taken on board but when I reveal the origin of the car I am looking at you will see why I am at ease with its history/spec etc.
I have been looking on here for a fair while and have been back through all previous pages and read all relevant threads, the same on the CSL register. Everything seems to point in the right direction with regards to this opportunity and what with a few of my pals stepping up to Porsche GT3's ready for next year this is the only chance that I may have of staying in touch on track. Hopefully we will be visiting Spa and Nordschleife ( THIS cars spiritual home, has done 7.40's apparently eek, it will never see that type of action during my tenure I can assure you of that ) although I will predominantly be focusing on UK track work in the imediate future yes

Good stuff...!

Having been trying to catch GT3's all year, I can tell you they are about 8-10secs a lap quicker on the GP at Sillystone.. so dont be thinking you will be chomping on their Xorsts..! they are 12-15mph quicker down the straights, about the same in the bends, and about the same on the brakes.. but only if your on Cups and running Intrax/KW suspension with A/P's or Alcons..

C2's / C4's no problem.. I have beaten a few GT3's but TBH in the right hands you won't get near one....! but dont let that put you off trying, I make a point of having a go @ everyone i see.. wink and push them round the bends to find out if they can pedal it or not..! you will be amazed what you can beat in an E46 once you get to grips with, and correct the stock handling problems..

Enjoy.. biggrin

^^^ I hear what you are saying and would dearly love a GT3 but I simply can not afford one. I do have a 'not so secret weapon' in the shape of a 650 bhp Ultima but getting it quite enough to get on track is proving very difficult. The appeal of an arrive and drive track tool + an unhealthy BMW habit has bought me to the CSL's door yes
If all goes well over the next 18 months I would not mind pulling the mill from the CSL and getting a PROPER motor built for it, but we will see and as you know, power is not the be all and end all with regards to going round in circles quickly wink. The car has 4 X way Ti Intrax ( overkill for a mere mortal like me but if they are included, I'll have them I suppose biggrin ) roll cage with AP's all round + all the normal up grades and some not so normal too ( how about power steering fluid cooler for a start! )
The car comes with a spare set of rims in 18" and Cup's + all the standard running gear etc. should the choice be made to return the car back to standard.

Now that sounds similar to the car i looked at on Friday morning..!

Your right about power not being everything on these cars.. I added 40bhp to mine.. and it yeilded about 1 second off my lap times.. its the 200kg that you can take off it that counts.. biggrin

I see a few Ultimas on track.. but not many that don't get towed back in at some point during the day..! last one was yellow and green striped..

GT3 RS may be but GT3?
I guess allot has to do with how hard you are driving. 8/10 secs per lap is vast, if I find this to be the case there may well be an '04 SB CSL for sale ( along with the other 20+ in the classifieds here wink )

Apparently a bit more ability is required to drive a GT3 to its max.?

Your right... 8-10s a lap is night and day.. there's not much in it between a 7GT3 and an 7RS.. same power and weight.. maybe 1 sec or so, no more.. they are more difficult to drive for sure.. but can run 2:08's in the right hands, a CSL will typically run 2:18's.. let me know how you get on with it tho'..!

996GT3's run 2:10-12's..
