Guys,

After many discussions with mates who have SMG also....I'm now confused.
When your on it, is it recommended to lift off the throttle for gear changes or just keep it pinned?

On setting 5 & 6 it feels like the diff is going to drop out the back!

I never lift off when changing gear. If you do, the SMG software seems to learn that you like soft gear changes so it ends up just slurring changes for you when you don't lift off. People then think their clutch is knackered, but it hardly ever is. You just need to go for a damn good blat (like a trackday) to cure it.

I usually stay in s3 mode on the road. I think it was the chap at the dealership I go to who told me it's the best compromise e.g. quickish gear changes without giving the clutch too much of a hard time.

I lift slightly on the road and don't on the track. It can feel like it is slipping on the road but is fine. It doesn't slip on full-bore changes...

Thanks for the info chaps.

Flat shifts on setting 5 or 6 feels REALLY harsh on the transmission.
Perhaps I will try a lower setting however i'll just get impatient on the track and need quicker shifts!

It does, but the transmission doesn't mind...
