Cup Tyres Wear Limits..?

Yup more Cup tyres questions..!
What are the general guidelines for the lower wear limit on cups for grip on track, rears particularly.. I found I had a few too many unannounced 90-100mph oversteery moments at Silly last week, which was unusual..! 1 at bridge, which is a bad corner to get it wrong.. ! rears are pretty low, but all the tread pattern is visible, maybe 1mm all over.. is there a point where the compound changes in the tyres and the grip drops off..?
10 degree ambient on the day, I usually run 34 rear hot pressures.. but will try 32-33 next time out to bring the balance back to neutral.. I couldn't get them as hot as i would like, so maybe this was partly responsible too...
Can you run them down to slicks OK..? or bin them before that..?
