Can you guys help, I would like your opinions on what suspension to go for, did it really make a big change to your car?

I.e. dropped seconds of your avarage lap time? Or did the new found confidence in the car do half/ most of the job?

My main love is the ring so fast road is probably more important than balls out racer ? with a few track days scattered through the year, ranging from donnington, Silverstone, cadwell, croft and possibly Bedford. Hope that’s gives enough background for the kind of info I am after. ps it seams kw are the most used for my car, and thorney seem to know what they are talking about, but for my sins I am a northern monkey and its a bit of a long way down.

( but at a push I will go there for the right job)
car is on big APs and will stay on cups, unless big feed back on toyos r888, is that the way to go ?
Variant 3 ? or variant 3 with top mounts ? or clubsport v 3 with top mounts ?

Help !!!!!

Many thanks Simon

I run KW v3 + Clubsport turret tops.. and its just fine.! about £1800 fitted with a geo ready to go.. from Thorney M'sport.. with the turret tops you have to run parallel race springs, so it does compromise road comfort, but mine is a daily driver, and you get used to it, and avoid the ruts..!

Suspension is a massive improvement over the stock set-up, flat cornering, instead of going round on the door handles..!

Some of the guys swear by Intrax IK2.. it is dearer about £2.5K all in fitted (Simpson M-Sport) and runs a coilover rear so you can play with the rear ride height.. if its any better is a matter of choice and trial and error really.. but for track day work there wont be much in it ... depends on the depth of your pockets and the length of your arms..!

I prefer the independant bump and rebound adjustment of the KW's which the IK2 doesnt have, i find i can dial out a handling error with this set up.. the IK2 is on a thumbscrew and adjusts both at the same time.. which i fine, its just a matter of choice..

Like you, I am looking for some feedback on the 19" 888's and considering trying them out next, and have just run a thread to see what i can find out..!

I run Intrax 4 ways on mine.

completely delighted with them.

Got some friends running KW Competition 3 ways, and others running AST coilovers.

All are happy.

I think essentially all quality kits are going to be a decent improvement on stock.

The key thing is having someone to set your car up right. If your local/friendly engineer is familiar with a particular brand, its best to go with that to ensure you get the right setup.

I have heard a while ago that R888 didn't like cars as heavy as the M3 (although maybe the CSL gets away with it) and Exiges or lightest FWD cars are better suited. That said, I know people using them on 996/997 GT3RS/GT2 and rating them highly.

Although they are expensive, no one has ever said anything bad about proper cups. If you can afford them, stick with them...

Forgot to say I'm on 1K2 and very happy with them...

thanks for the info so far chaps

i did run toyo r888 on my 996 turbo and thought they where quite good, the main reason i liked them is they get up to temp much quicker than the cups? ie much better for the ring as its quite hard to get cups up to temp at the ring ( without 1 good lap to warm up , seems like a waste though )

plus toyos are only about £100 less so not much in it . unles i have been getting bad prices for the toyos ?
cups £1250 inc vat and fitting
toyos £1100 ish ??

Camskill tyres will do you a set of 888's for about 925 quid delivered, if you go that way... plan on 10 quid a corner to get them fitted...

Nonsense.

On a normal day cups will be useful after Hatzenbach and working properly by A-F.

On a cold day it might take you as far as Breidscheid...

Cups will they stay good until you're out of fuel, without degrading badly.

If its taking you longer than that, you're probably driving too slowly biggrin

You Cheeky monkey,

but you may be right ,I only run around 8.15 on average with an 8.05 best bridge to gantry, and I honestly find I need a good lap to warm up the cups? Perhaps we will meet at the ring and you can scare me, and show me some better lines TTFN

The people in the glass case have reluctantly let it go as it was commanding & drawing more attention than the other marques on show & drawing business...

Dont know if it starts first time as it has been carted off to be 'fettled' to my spec.

finally, do you remember the 1978 Action/Stunt film 'Hooper' starring Burt Reynolds with his line during the film which is now even more appropriate "BYE,BYE BABY..."?

Shame about the Intrax i would have given them to you as they are brand new.

Good luck with your SEE-SAW...

See you soon

If your gonna crap yourself, your not allowed in it.
