Track Suspension KW competition vs Intrax 4 way
Discussion
Having run KW3 + turret tops for 2008 trackday season, I am considering my options for 2009, I have found the KW3 pretty good once set up.. but i have found crawling around underneath the car in the pits with a box of small keys is testing my patience.., setting and correcting bump compression with small allen keys can be pretty tedious on a lowered car.. specially the rear bump, with a little 2mm hole to find and a small key that is like a spring if you miss the hole and it falls off, similarly the fronts i dropped the key last time out in the cold, and dare not move the car for 20 mins till i had found it..!
I'm considering KW competition dampers or Intrax 4 way.. i'm liking the Intrax for the thumb screw adjustment method.. which is a lot less agro, but are they 2wice as good..? how much is a set compared to the KW comps..
Anyone got exp of both.. pro's and con's..?

In my opinion there are no better for handling and adjustability...being a lot lighter helps too.
I sold mine as with the car recenlty and had a very good season but i did a lot of trial and error, ended up with only the IK2 kit but was miles ahead of the previous Bisteins and Schnitzer kits Previously.
My frind has KW V3'S and they are no where near as composed as mine was but cannot say for the competition?
Whay not get try and get a ride in one with intrax.....go and see Anthony at simpsons and he will take you out in his demo or maybe let you have a spin????
Either way its the best way to find out rather than listen to pub chat.
Mine was 40 clicks bump/rebound same knob and a height adjustment of more than 100mm.
Unless you are racing/time attack there would be no point of the 4 ways in my opinion as you get the choice of spring rates for your style of driving, all in all it was the best mod i ever made.
Shimmy if your reading let me know how you got on with mine?

Thanks Dan... I'm looking at a road / track combination set up really.. not balls out racing.. I liked the intrax 4-way for the ease of adjustability on the thumbscrews.. but i have not investigated the costs yet..! is the 2 way on a thumbscrew front and rear..? how does the bump / rebound work on the same thumbscrew..? pull / push..? is the rear a coliover or independant strut / spring.. as the KW..?
I would normally tap someone up @ the track for a ride to see / feel the difference.. as March is coming round quickly.. and i want to get it ready ahead of the 14th for Slitherstone.. Thorney does KW's and looks after my car, but i would be very keen to try Intrax before making a call on which way to go with it..

I heard that Thorney is KW orientated and with Simpsons Intrax..The IK2'S were for me veru easy to adjust and all on one knob with the bump and rebound together without making things too complicated.
Yes they are true coilovers as opposed to seperate spring and shock on the rear and no they do not put too much pressure on the rear mounts as some suggest....not mentioning any names!
You not long missed out on mine as sold them pretty cheap to in the end and wondering why now.
The Price for the IK2'S compared with the 4 ways are alot for just the little more in convenience to adjust...couldn't say for the KW clubsport but i know that Tom Schirmer in Germany uses them so cannot imagine that they are cheap....as anything with that guy.
All this is making me miss mine now...Waiting for my MK IndyR Biek powered knat to be built as the credit crunch is taking its toll i thought it would be better to keep track and road seperate and drive my van
Enjoy the season and might meet up at Silvers at some point.

Sure.. come and say Hi at Slitherstone 1 day.. you will find my car easy enough.., 1st job is rear trailing arm bushes and twist limiting supports .. but while the back end is in bits.. i'm considering the suspension, to get to grips with if there is any real advantages of the Intrax over KW.. or if they are a bit better valved for road work perhaps too.. and exploring what p-headers have exp of both.. i dont have anything bad to say about the KW3's, far from it they are damn good on track when set up.. and i like the independant bump and rebound adjustment, but the pins and keys to adjust them is something i could do with out which can be erased by the Intrax..
Anthony @ Simpsons tells me the 4 ways are real racing stuff, & priced accordingly, a step too far, and a lot to get your head round for road / track combo useage.. so it will be IK2 if any..

KW Competition or Intrax 4 way will both be about 4-5k fitted I'd say, unless you have the ability to correctly work out what to do you'd be better off comparing KW clubsport and intrax 1k2 at half that money.
Intrax every time for me, the ability to take curbs is awesome and the traction is brilliant, both benefits of the Ohlins like approach of softer springs and better quality damping rather than rock hard springs.

I'm planning on the Goldtrack day 14th March to open the season.. and warm up my cups.. hopefully with no rear wheel steering this time round..! i will be looking for a ride in an Intrax damped car on the track before making a call on which way to go.. so hopefully someone can oblige..;)

Dunno if the other Nathan (NathanRS4) is going.
Better off getting taken round in someone elses car, I've never done Silverstone and as said, no idea if my car will be back and lovely or still in pieces.
NathanRS4 is Leicester right!! No he's not going but now i am less confused!!Better off getting taken round in someone elses car, I've never done Silverstone and as said, no idea if my car will be back and lovely or still in pieces.
As you and me will be looking for someone to follow round the GP circuit maybe we ought to get a map!
