Question...

What are the symptons of the rear trailing arm bushes being on the way out..? do they squeek like an old dry hinge over an uneven surface..? does the rear end of the car feel like its got a puncture on one side..? almost like its got some bump steer going on..?

confused

They dont really make that much noise (unless they are really bad) but it does make it feel like its steering from the rear or like a punture ,I dont think bushes are as bad as some people say , they take a fair bit of stick, What you need is a bush limiting kit to hold the rear arms from twisting sidewards when accelerating or cornering at full throtle.(also stops bushes wearing and uneven tyre wear) I have just made such kits and after developing on my car and a friends we are going to start selling kits at £70 deliverd, the kits are simple to install taking only 1 hour to fit and requires no other equipment other than a socket set,if any one is int let me know (if i am not allowed to put up a post such as this then i am sorry and please remove) Cheers Tim.

Makes sense... i definatley have some rear wheel steering going on at present.. it feels rubbish, and much worse turning right than left.. i have my dampers wound off to full soft now so a little unclear what to expect.. feels like a puncture.. agreed, the side play you mention would induce rear wheel steering... next job to do before the tarmac then..!

Cheers guys... now I have wound the dampers off to full soft, the trailing arm has a bigger, quicker movement and range, which has really shown up the problem.. and with some variable rear toeing going on it feels garbage under load.... its ok for steady driving, but needs fixing ahead of the new seasons track days for sure..

I dont have a press to get the bushes out, or put new ones back in, and theres no point having it all to bits and not changing the bushes too is there...? so Thorney will be getting a phone call shortly...

Thats better... no more rear wheel steering on the power.. thumbup went the powerflex bush route.. which are more like nylon top hats really, doesnt seem to compromise the ride much.. but much more planted on wide open throtte off a bend.. in the dry anyhow.. !

Right again Mr Thorne...!
