Saw two 500hp E46's today at Silverstone, one customer car, a CSL and one owned by Simpson Motorsport but both being converted by Simpsons.
The Customer CSL had all the goodies: carbon boot lid, carbon bonnet (flutted like the v8 GTR e46 m3), Brembo's, lowered and with custom brace bars plus it was supercharged to 500hp.
Looked lovely plus had a good chat with the owner who was well chuffed. On the way to the track he blew away a new v8 m3 (who was also there on the day).
Sadly I didn't get to see him doing any laps but sure it would have been quick.

Got me thinking that for circa 45K (30K car, 8K supercharger, 2K brakes and 5K for other odds and sodds) you could have a car that eats 911 GT3's!

Oh, on the circuit next to us there were 6 new Nissan GTR's doing customer demo days. Not sure how a modded CSL would go against them as they looked fast albeit sounding kinda boring though.

I did, it's very fast! Needs a little tweaking but still great fun, have to say it's a fair bit quicker than the CSL (in stock form) but that's only naturally as it's basically a race car.

Yep, that was mashed at the front. Pretty lucky no intrusion into the passenger side, I thought for sure there'd be some around the floor.
I did say to my mate ah well most of the parts will be salvageable but on closer inspection the whole car was a right off.

Thats interesting Mark..did he have a problem towards the end. The power down the straights was stunning but the CSL seemed to put the power down better in the bends. Is is because the Ultima has all that power which you have to be gentle with in the bends. What do you think Robin you've had both.

Whenever I go on a forum there is always a great video from Mark at Knockhill these days (Andyk cslregister). Another good one.

The ultima is owned by Tim (thevet) on here and i remember him saying that was the first time in a while that it hadnt had a problem lol just a cool down lap before heading in,just a case of not being able to get the power down in the corners as its making 625bhp (6.6 litre supercharged V8) we had a run with him too that day,the evo has more power but im pretty sure he has a ton more torque.

Andy, regarding cornering I think it's what engine you have in the Ultima and it's power delivery. For mine I have a 5.7 litre alloy block with fuel injection (quad cam, 32 valve yum!), it's quite smooth in power delivery. I suspect some of the higher power jobbies (usually older cast iron push rod jobs) can be a little trickier. Ted from the Ultima factory seemed to think 400-450hp is a nice number for trackday engines.
As for ability the Ultima is way better on the track, even in the wet I was keeping up with a well driven 997 GT3 and he was a better driver for sure.
Three things stand out though in comparison with a CSL:
1. The Ultima needs a lot more 'playing around' in set-up, I had chronic understeer in mine and the level of adjustments are quite varied and can be carried out trackside(camber, toe in, height etc..)
2. You miss the CSL's electronics but only really in the wet. It's a lot more of a 'challenge' to drive quickly.
3. The Ultima is a kit car and so suffers all the usual kit car issues e.g. leaks, glass fibre smells etc... Build quality is not a patch on a BMW product.

Wow! that Evo is very quick. I was surprised the way it went past the Atom. That Atom was taking great racing lines so clearly well driven and had some extra downforce bits on it but the Evo just romped past it.
What's in that Evo? Can't be stock suspension, brakes etc...

Very not stock laugh its a Time Attack race car i think the build cost at the moment would be around the same as an Ultima.
2.3 stroker with a GT35R,8 pot brakes with carbon metallic pads, dog box with sequential shifter and AST/Whiteline suspension. The atom was the 300bhp supercharged version too laugh
