Is it me or do CSLs with more than 30k miles not sell as easily as the ones below 30k miles? This seems to be the point where the seller needs to drop their price a bit to get the sale.

Is there anything significant about 30k miles? I mean, is that where the suspension components start to wear out, where it needs the big service (Inspection 1)?

It's quite a simple calculation really, as the mileage goes up, the price comes down.

:-)

Higher mileage doesn't always mean less desirable.

25K and 'open to offers' in the classified section. Black with 53,000 miles.

people should be queueing up to buy it but I have a sneaky suspicion it might just take a wee while to sell. People do seem to be put off by higher mileage CSL's.

I think the folk with 26-28K in the back pocket can easily justify finding the extra 5K to buy a lower mileage mint example and who can blame them.

The problem is that 53k is high for a csl, alot of enthusiasts buy csl's and they want low miles. I dont think a 53k car will shift too fast, and when the next buyer finds it time to sell it will be even harder to sell! Whereas pay another 3k and you will get a lot less miles and at this level what difference does 3k make!!!

Surely the fact you have saved £5k on that CSL with £53k miles, you can afford to sell it for £5k cheaper when you need to sell?

Very true. However, I have seen this in cars before, high mileage car priced less to account for miles, problem is they hang around for ages! I'd rather pay £5k more and then sell it for £5k more when time comes to sell. Good cars always sell for good money!

I don't think higher mileage cars hang around too long if priced right. Mine had circa 45K and was priced at 26,800. The Autotrader ad came out a week ago and I've had around 8 calls (including BMW dealers!) with a deal being done last Friday.
So it took four days.

I can see why higher mileage puts people off however you have to be really careful as a lot of lower mileage 'second/third' cars are used predominantly on the track. Any seller that tells you otherwise is usually full of it
"I've never tracked it mate, honest"
Yeah, that's why you fitted the AP's all round right.

So it's best to do a little common sense research e.g. is it their only car, do they do a long commute, what is the gap between the service intervals etc..

I had an E46 M3 that had just done over 100K before being stolen so they are robust and reliable. It's just that Track to Road Ratio that needs to be looked at.

But then a CSL is a track-focused car. You should almost expect it to have done track work. If you look at it the other way, people that track their cars have usually maintained them in a money-is-no-problem kind of fashion and has probably been well looked after by an independent specialist.

Robin knocked it on the head...they need to be priced right. Condition and history is far more important to me than miles and at the end of the day they are BMW's....built to last.

all cars are taking time to sell at the moment so just hang in there. You just need the right guy to look and you will sell, as long as you are competitive witht he next 50k mile CSL

mine has done 47k and drives like a dream
