Well, can't fault your choice smile

Depends what it is you get out of the Elise and what you'd be prepared to give up, plus what you think you'll gain from the CSL and whether it's going to spend much of it's life on the track etc.

Yeah, it's a good choice, what's the Elise worth by the way?

You will miss the steering of the Elise, the feel of the chasis, the sensation of a mid engine sports car, and open air motoring.

You will love the sound of the CSL's engine, its performance, its practicality, the ease at which you can go sideways, the way (of late) that it holds its value, the quality of the engineering.

You are not mad at all. There are a lot of CSL owners who have had Elises (myself included). Lotus have been missing a trick by not providing an upgrade path from the Elise. Hopefully the Eagle will fill the gap!

Anyway, back on topic. Go for it. I had a Caterham and a CSL at the same time, and ended up selling the Caterham as I was choosing to take the CSL even when the weather was perfect for the 7. Engage Sport mode and drop the windows in a CSL and you wont look back.

I've just changed from an Elise R to a CSL and glad I did. i was using the elise every day and on longer journeys it became tiresome - too much bobbing around at speed on the motorway, too noisy, too unrefined - I know that it's not meant to be that kind of car, but I just needed something different.

The CSL on the other hand is very refined at a good M-Way cruising speed and fun 90% of the time. Definately not so much fun around town in the traffic, whereas the elise was good fun at 30mph smile

You might want to try a Porker - I recently had the pleasure of a 24h test drive of a 997 C4S and it was awesome - felt like an elise on steroids, only much more planted and comfortable at speed. i don't know how a 996 would compare to a 997, but you can get good 996's for CSL money.

Cheers

I to am going for a CSL and coming out of an Elise. I love Lotus and am on my 8th but the CSL seems to bo the natural progression, especially as I could do with 4 seats know.....

So do you reckon its quicker than your Elise?

Hi Dan

No, but then my Elise is far from standard!

On the main straight at Bedford I reckon the CSL is only 4 or 5mph slower.

I really rate the CSL. Perfectly useable on the road (my Elise is pretty compromised now), and even with just a brake pad and fluid change, very good on track.

I want to pay a lump of my mortgage off, so regrettably I need to sell a car. Its the Elise thats going. I guess that's pretty telling as to how much I like the CSL. I'll miss the Elise like hell though - for the money a Supercharged Honda'd Elise takes some beating and can mix it with some serious machinery on track, whilst being very docile and well behaved on the road.

Have you got your BMW track car sorted now? If so, are you going to Oulton Park on the 3rd June?

Cheers

No, doing a trackday. Racing is a far off pipe dream for me. http://www.motorsportvision.co.uk/trackdays/event-... Although I thought this was a BMW day, but MSV don't make mention of this.

Are you planning on racing your BMW?
I'm just in the process of booking a few more dates with LOT, so would be good to catch up.

Yeah planning to race the BMW now.

On the trackday front I've booked up Silverstone on Sunday, Spa end of this month for 2 days and then Brands GP on 2nd of June. Having a breather after that!

Got bored of Bedford though so mostly looking to do the bigger and more exciting tracks these days. Last time I checked the LoT calendar there wasn't much that appealed so I've been unfaithful and using BaT/Goldtrack/MSV of latewink

Silverstone, Spa and Brands GP - not a bad way to spend a few weeks!

Hey Andy, your car is in the garage now but I'm tempted to take it for one last blast up the back roads (or the Nurburgring)!
You're going to love the car, it's been the best car I've ever had (and I've had over 40), they really are brilliant machines, I can't think of anything for the price that can match the allround performance and no, not just 0-60 but everyday useability, reliability etc..
