Hey guys,
I've got a set of ap racing brakes on the front of my car and the grooved discs have been cracked for a while but are now becoming pretty big. I'm going to be going to the nurburgring for a couple of days at the end of march for the rma trackday and would ideally like to get through the 2 days before replacing the brakes as i'm thinking about selling when i get back and dont want to pay for some new discs which i will not need in the future (the garage i'm part-xing with want to put the original brakes back on)
how much cracking would you guys consider to be dangerous and seeing as i'm going to be doing 2 days round the 'ring what could happen re brake failure etc???
the cracks are about an inch in length in parts but the discs are pretty large

Hey buddy,

Those sound pretty big...as an aside, porsche recommend changing the discs of their cross drilled brembos when they reach 6mm.

I *think* you will be ok as long as the cracks dont reach the edge of the disc. Also how much of a lip is there on the edge of the disc?

But nurburgring, actually, isnt that bad for brakes. The only part which is hard is from Kallenhard to Breidschied bridge, which is all downhill and difficult slow corners.

Hope you have fun, shame I couldnt be there, would have been good to meet you and your bro again,

best,
adam

Thanks mate!
Think i'm gonna have a chat with john thorne about them as he sold them to me, will post some photos on monday and everyone can tell me what they think (they're definately over 6mm!!) Will just have to see.
Thanks for the info tho, would've been great to meet up for a beer or 2 but hopefully i'll see you at a forthcoming vmax (you'll be proud to hear that leon's rt12 took the joint lead at 211mph last sunday, equalling 9ff! ruf must be chuffed!)
all the best bud

Providing they don't reach to the inner or outer edge of the disc you should be fine. I've just bought a CSL and it has the AP set up with some long cracks. I would imagine they are circa 12-15mm?

It's in the shop today being prepped for the RMA trip and the guys have advised the brakes are fine.

You may not be needing the brakes much if the current weather at the 'ring continues!
