Hi,

A couple of years back I drove an M3 CSL and absoloutely loved it biggrin The problem I had is that, after an hour or 2 behind the wheel, I got a pain in the middle of my back from the wings of the seat pushing my shoulders forward. I was so p****d off about it as the car was perfect in every other way frown

I've recently bought a Z4M Roadster. It's a nice car, don't get me wrong, but I'm still hankering after a CSL. I know that some owners have changed the seats for standard M3 ones, but I don't like the idea of adding all that extra weight to the car. Do any of you have a solution to make the CSL seats more comfortable and overcome this back pain issue?

Thanks,
Dom.

Hi Dom.
A number of people have swapped out the CSL seats for adjustable Recaros etc.

Thanks Dave... any specific model of Recaro's that fit? Do you know if it's a big job or a simple swop?

Cheers,
Dom.

I have pretty wide shoulders and about 18 stone of frame to fit in the seat and all i do is put the passenger seat back cushion in my seat which pushes forward you back about 30mm and slves an issue for me. i dont now touc the wings of the seat unless cornering hard

Yo can buy another cushion instead of robbing the passenger seat if you like.

As a thought: Try a Recaro lumber support. I used one when racing my BMW E46 320i Touring Car. I wasn't entirly comfortable in the Recaro seat, but use of £10 of padding made the difference.

Food for thought?

I took the little lumbar cushions out of my seats and replaced them with Sparco inflatable ones. Makes the seat much better for me but probably won't make much difference regarding the seat width (though I am more than averagely broad-shouldered myself)

the seat depth is solved as i mentioned by increasing the back cushion so that your body is slightly forwards hence your shoulders so not strike the side of the seats.(the CSL seats do not have really deep side wings)

Thanks for the advice guys.... wish I'd thought to ask the question before I decided not to buy one 2 years ago frown

I'll talk to the dealer this afternoon to see if he's got a CSL in his group smile

Cheers,
Dom.

I just made up an extra pad to fit into the seat with £50 of matching grey alcantara bought of the internet and some memory foam and a bit of cardboard. Very Blue Peter, but it sorted out the back problem instantly and looks ok. Made one for a mate as well, much cheaper than buying new seats. Stops the 'shoulders forward' problem of the stock seats which made them unbearable.

You can just pull out the padding in the back and add extra behind it - it is just velcroed in place and you'll see the movable lumbar support too behind there.

take it to BMW dealer who can remove seat and re-fix in better position to suit you.
