BMW EXTENDED WARRANTY
Discussion
does this pay?? £1050 for 1 year extended warranty each and every claim has a £250 excess therefore true cost of the warranty is £1300 mine is due but am thinking this just aint worth it if i keep the car another 3 yrs £3900 that would probably cover most of what would go wrong i only drive maybe 1500 miles a year
this seems extortionate considering porshe warrany is £600 i think bmw are lifting my leg

I renewed last year and didn't have a single claim, haven't bothered this year.this seems extortionate considering porshe warrany is £600 i think bmw are lifting my leg
Agreed, if you've owned the car for a bit and ironed out all the obvious issues, and are keeping the car then I don't think it's value for money. If on the other hand you are thinking of selling in the near future, it does make the car much easier to sell privately and through the dealer network.

..but on the other hand, the car I have had since Aug 2003 has had all the usual stuff (+more as 'preventative maint') and I still had £4000 claims in the first year of the extended warranty - and I spent about £2000 on the warranty (including the various excesses). So it paid for me.Now I'm in the second year (£1050 paid) and it's having another diff, this time though without excess as they're picking that one up.
I renewed my warranty with BMW for my CSL in September.Sure it isni cheap but ive been rather lucky i think.Getting in to my car after some arse in a lorry had parked to close to the drivers door and i managed to slip when getting in and cracked the seat.Put it in to Parks BMW and sure enough it needed a new seat and frame also needed a new clutch and flywheel. All in all £3600.00 covered by the warranty.Thank fook i renewed

Surprised they paid out on a clutch...big fra said:
They paid out on the clutch cause it's SMG!!
I can understand a flywheel and can only summerise that it fractured into the clutch plate. The warranty wouldn't cover a clutch under normal circumstances as it's a consumable similar to brake pads etc.. SMG makes no difference.E.g. If I took mine to BMW when the clutch wore out, they wouldn't cover it. Just like they didn't cover my brake pads and discs at the last service.
All, let me know if I'm wrong here cos if so I'm off to get my 'slipping' clutch replaced!!!

Unless of course you've done 100k miles on it, then they'll laugh you down the road, probably.
I had my clutch and flywheel replaced under manufacturer warranty (54 reg) last month at 49k miles. Said they inspected it and can tell the diff between mileage wear and smg silliness wear. That was murketts in huntingdon. Know a guy who knows a guy running a standard m3 with first clutch and something like 80k miles. not bad. guess i'll need one sometime after 130k!
Owned for 3 years - no clutch at all (touch wood). No warranty renewed. All depends on peoples circumstances /usage / mileage / etc.
With the warranty you're tied into the BMW network too - there's additional cost associated with that too. I imagine a new clutch at a 3rd party would be considerable less than BMW and is upgradeable too.
