Have the majority of CSL owners traded up from a M3? are there any to whom the CSL is their first bmw ?

I started BMW ownership with a E36 M3 Evolution, before progressing to the E46 M3 not long after they came out, then the CSL.

Had a couple of M3s years ago including an E36 Evo. Took a long diversion round several other manufacturers and ended up in the CSL.

996 tt much quicker in straight line (mine was dms at 500bhp)
it did 0 to 60 in 4 second dead and 0 to 100 in 8 seconds dead ( data logged times)
but they are very heavy/ lardy around corners, the csl feels like a race car in comparison in the handling stakes.
we will see if its faster at the ring in 2 weeks.
best time sofar in the 996 was 8.05 btg?
996 is much more flattering shall we say, csl seems to demand more input.
brakes ,on porker far better, but i have changed to ap 6 pots now . csl should of had them on from factory.

but i think that was the whole idea of the car, to me its the family mans GT3!

Hi there

Pretty much what I was expecting you to say. I had a 550BHP Mustang before the CSL which was identical to your 996 acceleration times, again datalogged. The Mustang was sorted in the handling side of things too, but saying that the CSL is still better on the twisty stuff.

I've driven a GT3 but found that too much to live with on a daily basis on UK roads, but as a track car the GT3 is awsome, where the CSL is nearly as good on track but my view is the CSL is far better on the road over the GT3.

So are the 6 pot AP's a lot better then? I am finding the brakes on the CSL not as good as those I had on the Mustang but saying that they do the job.

I had the 996TT and the CSL at the same time. The TT is now gone and I continue to enjoy the CSL. The Porsche has a much bigger sense of occasion....blisteringly fast and quicker throught the lanes because it's an easier car to drive. Not much good on track....too heavy

The CSL is lighter and more nimble.......more noise....the kind of car you grab by the scruff and want to drive it hard...very addictive....a hooligan of a car.

Gt3 more comparable but whilst the 996 GT3 is a handfull on the road and the CSL more forgiving the 997 takes drivability to a whole new level.
