Hi there

CSL values do seem to be increasing, not surprising considering how great it is.

50,000 miles should not be too much of a worry on a car thats got full service history, I think the highest mileage CSL is around 80,000 and is running fine. There are plenty of M3's with over 100k on the clock and those are fine.

If the car has Full service history, is in excellent condition then go for it. If it has no warranty then look at buying a warranty from warranty direct, about £600-£1000 for a CSL, you have to barter with them but it covers all the major expensive things that can/may go wrong.

I'm sure the car will probably be just fine with 50K on the clock. What I will say is that if you put another 20K in it then it's probably going to be pretty hard to sell.

I think an extra few thousand spent on a 30K car is money well spent. Don't rush into anything, look at a few cars to get an idea of what to expect and try to buy from an enthusiast. Remember to check that the 1200 mile inspection has been completed on time, most people won't touch one that's been done more than a few hundred miles late.

Air-con is an essential option for resale and cars without it tend to suffer to the tune of 2-3K. Take your time, although not common there are usually a few around on Pistonheads. Plus if you do buy one, the good news is they are currently appreciating - there aren't many cars you can say that about smile

Despite the obvious bias I may have, I don't think this is necessarily true.

In terms of cost, you'll pay at least twice as much for a new CSL and it's likely not going to be that much difference performance-wise. Therefore the current CSL is always going to be an amazing bargain at current prices, especially for people looking to buy as a track car.

Not sure I agree with that.

I believe the new CSL is over a year off (I read 18 months) and is likely to be in the order of 70K if there is any similarity with E46 M3 and M3 CSL pricing.

The M3 CSL is (arguably) the best true M car ever produced. It was made in very limited numbers, just 422 in the UK and I'm sure quite a large percentage of these are sadly no longer with us. Genuine examples are always going to be in demand. Just look at the E30 EVO cars, they continue to increase in value.

Lastly, the current CSL is going to be a hard act to beat. The new M3 certainly has not suceeded in surpassing it.

Just my thoughts - don't bet on them falling in price!

just a waiting game with me hoping you are all right.I would hate to see csl's getting low enough that stupid dirty chavs could buy and ruin them and their reputation.

HI there

Last time I checked Chavs generally don't go buying cars costing over 15k, let alone 25k.

The cheapest CSL in the country is believed to be around 25k and that has 80,000 miles on the clock.

Needless to say CSL's with more desirable mileage like 25,000-35,000 miles seem to be selling in the 33-36k region depending on options fitted to the car. Sub 20,000 mileage examples tend to fetch very good money and current values of cars with less than 40,000 miles on the clock seem to be appreciating very well. smile

997GT3RS doesn't appear to have knocked 996GT3RS prices.

According to my local BMW dealer the new CSL could be out as late as 2010 so I estimate value will hold for another year at least.

can't see this myself, if anything, the newer E92 CSL will strengthen values due to it's high introduction price and no-doubt over list trading for first 6-12 months.

Any money in an E46 CSL is safe IMO for at least 12-24 months, if bought well.
