CSL's are looking serious value for money these days which means extra £'s for mods.

Keep watching this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TSqH-V2P1U and wondering how difficult it would be to supercharge one? And the cost?

503 bhp and 346 lb ft of torque must make a huge difference in performance. And for £6k its a bargain.

Guess nobody has supercharged their car?

Hello there I have just swapped a 996 turbo for a csl !!
Yes the new addition to the family means I need a 4-seat car, csl ticks all the boxes.

Back to the super charger I miss the power of my dms tuned 500 bhp porkers so I have been looking at a super charger?
I have talked to Simpson’s motor sport regarding the kit mentioned in this thread, they say (as they would)
They have around 20 m3s already done none have ever let go allegedly 2 are csls?

They are bringing a new kit out very soon with out the water cooled inlet manifold, and going to intercoolers (lighter, simpler and cheaper)
Plus if the water leaks in the inlet. Boom engine!

Please feel free to email me and would love a chat, maybe we could get good price for 2 to be done?

The new charger looks very tempting, I just wonder whether you get away from some of the drivability of an NA CSL (ie it's quite easy to control slides with 360bhp) ?

All I have to go by is I used to have a mini cooper works with 215 bhp; it was very smooth in drivability?
I think we must find some m3s or csl owners with conversion.

The only worry I have is residual? Will it ruin the cars resale long term?

I have owned a 996 TT with 530 HP and there is no substitute for the warp speed feeling, particularly for rapid acceleration above 200 km/h on the autobahn. The allure of massive thrust is very addictive. And big power enhances safety by reducing overtaking times.

But high-powered cars demand respect when being driven close to the limit on tracks or twisties.

How do you find the CSL?

I have a 964 RS Clubsport at the moment running Motec but am afraid to say I am little bored at the moment hence looking at alternatives. CSL appeals as its designed with the same aim as the RS Porsche's but is more modern and more easily replaced (964 RS prices have gone silly recently) if anyting were to happen on track.

The csl is much more focused towards the driver I think it’s between a gt3 and a turbo?
Would have gone for a gt3 but want 4 seats! And the cost saving is a serious matter not to be over looked.

Things I really like are the cost difference, everything for the csl seems to be half the price.
I ran the turbo for around 2 years and probably spent around £10,000 on running costs (did quite a few track days in it)
It only ever gave me one problem (water hose split at the ring just going in to the car park. thank god)
Cost me 125 quid to fix, but brakes are around £1000 a go and they are heavy on brakes, tyres are £1000 ago and so on.
Re the csl!
I am turning in to a real ring addict and to me they seem to go around the ring quicker than a turbo even with less power.
I do like the tail happiness of the csl, and I find it turns in far better than the turbo, and god you can really feel the weigh difference (going to the ring on 28 sept for 3 days to find out)
My best time at ring so far is 8.08 bridge to gantry, so I am going to find out what its really like in anger in 4 weeks.
Then I think I will see if I really want a supercharger??

Ask me then

Well going to Oulton Park on Tuesday for a little get to know the car?
Ps if you want a giggle go to you tube type in "jj996” two turbos at the ring I am the blues turbo that passes him at t13 (well he lets me by? But he gets the better of me up the big back straight, but he dose have 580 bhp over my 480 /500.

Be keen to know how you get on with this but what does this sort of upgrade do to the drivetrain though??
Gearbox, diff, axles etc.. are they 'beefed' up?
