Hey guys,

I've been lurking around here for the past few days, I am considering buying an M3 CSL in the next few months.

I have a few questions and would like some advice please.

What can I expect to get for about £31k-ish?

Are there any buyers guides around?

What are general running costs like?

How reliable are they?

Are there specific problems associated with these cars( I'm not planning on modding it or adding more power)?

If so what are they, how much are these issues to fix and can they be done via the warranty?

How long is the manufactures warranty and how much is an after market warranty?

Are then specific things I need to look out for whilst looking/test driving and CSL other then normal things with any used car?

How does the RS handle, I am coming from a Lotus Elise S2 111r so am not too used to electronic gadgetry kicking in all the time, and handling is key to me, more so then outright power?

Thanks in advance, I know this is allot of questions....

PS the other car i am considering is the Audi RS6 so have posted the equivalent questions on the Audi board....

Cheers!!!!

Get yourself over to BM3W forum for the most complete owner's resource for all your questions.

You can't really compare the CSL to the RS6 - chalk and cheese different cars altogether! One's fun, the other's a big boring barge! IMHO of course before any Audi lovers get the wind up their skirts! hehe

had an RS6 avant in mugello blue and then a csl (which i still have).

I did have both for a few months at the same time.

There is no way you should be considering both cars for the same job.

RS6 is very quick in all conditions, comfortable (would say very but the seats were not great in my opinion). Huge power and torque but as many have said it does dull the senses a little as it is definitely not a definitive 'drivers car' especially if you are used to big power saloons. I had the M5 E39 for 5 years and found the RS6 a little dull after it although it has its better points. Good family car and tourer if you want to drive fast. COst me a bundle over the 12 months i had it.

CSL is about different things. Not good to drive with passengers especially the wife or aged boss. I always get a little apologetic for it due to the more basic interior and harder ride BUT get them out of the pasenger seat and it is a joy driven fast and hard. Sounds even better than the RS6 (which sounds great - i did do a head turning count in the local town one day when board to see which car got the most reaction - yes i know i am a little sad). If you had to drive it every day i think most people would sell up or get a daily drive. CSL is raw (to a degree) and firm ride (so does the RS6 by the way) but is a slightly more rare beast to see on the raods so i get more reaction with it. Surprisingly so!

It is not a difficult decision as it should be made on what job it has to do. I must say i always used to drive my cars for any reason and any day but since having the CSL i have put it in the garage and am slightly more choosey when i drive it. Dont know why! Think its becasue I feel it deserves looking after rather than stacking miles on the dash. Never thought it would happen.

See you at Bedford next month with AP kit, cups on and KW3 on order from Thorney!!
