Just been quoted £777.15 inc. VAT from Halliwell Jones Chester. About to do some more shopping around, just wondered for the cars that've covered relevant mileage how much did your inspection 1 service cost?

Cheers

{edit - put wrong number in)

£6-700ish is about right.

£160 will be for an oil service rather than an inspection 1.

Had inspection 1 carried out in April, by Murketts in Huntingdon, who know CSLs.
Mine showed 2,000 miles before it was due, but am off to France so got it done just in case. Mileage when serviced was reading 21,500.

For proper inspection 1 (with valve adjustment etc) you will pay iro £695.
Do not go to a local BMW with no CSL experience - they'll cock it up.
This is NOT an oil service, so there's no way BMW dealer will do it for £160???

If you're not fussed about BMW stamp in the book, specialists like Thorney in Milton Keynes come highly recommended on BM3W and will probably charge less.

Ive just had my inspection 1 (Coopers Sevenoaks) at 22k and had new back brakes (pads & discs) £411 plus VAT), oil change (in with Inspection 1), coolant change (£165 plus VAT had it done early, this is meant to be done after 4 years and wasnt due til Sept 07).

They also found oil leaking on the prop shaft. This was going to cost £500 to fix but as the car has low mileage and has not long been out of warranty (september 06) they got some goodwill from BMW and it only ended up costing me £75 for the labour. The total cost was £1360. They originally said it would be about £900 for the inspection alone but when I nearly cried, they said they would get a discount on parts.

Just the inspection ended up costing approx £550/£600.

Cheers for the swift replies. Thought id get a BMW dealer quote first but think i will probably go somewhere else, ill have a look on bm3w as you've suggested and see what the craic is there. You're right about the dealer having no experience, got put through to the service department and the guy on the phone said, "So its an inspection one service on an M3 csi your looking for is it?" Do i really want the car going there i thought!

Could be worse, i was looking at changing my M3 & mentioned to the chap at our local dealer (main dealer for both BMW & Merc) that i would like the CSL gearbox software update installed on my M3, to try to cure the slow downshifts.

"Software for a CLS merc?"
"no, a BMW M3 CSL"
"errr, mercedes make the CLS sir"
"Yeah i know, the BMW M3 CSL software has a more agressive downshift, it might help with the problem"
" We cant install Merc software on a BMW sir!"
" Actually, i think i'll leave it for now"

I left the showroom & i'm sure the guy thought i was a total nut.

Use Stratstone in Windsor - they quoted me £700 and then charged me for a normal 3 series at £400 by accident :-)
