Good write up, saying what a bargain CSLs are.
Hopefully the demand won't shoot up and the prices rise, just at a time I am considering getting one!!!

Welcome back (for whan you do).
Cheap-ish one in the classifieds and the faster colour too.....
Say what you like about the tenets of national socialism, but at least it's an ethos.

you mean the air fix one that is the old P1 car? there is a reason that is cheapo! I have been in it when a mate was in P1. had a harder life than a teen porn star! proper rinsed and ruined....
CSL values are holding tight and i don't see how the somewhat lardy new M3 will drop their worth.
'Car' magazine has a good write-up on the new M3 and fine car though it is the ptw ratio is no better than a stock CSL and arguably the latter has a more exciting engine too.
It's also a lot of money to buy, circa £54,000 they say.
Low mileage well cared for examples of the Coupe Sport Light will be worth £30K at the end of 2007, for sure.

Hmmmm, as much as I want to believe values will stay strong what a lot of us seem to forget is that low mileage examples will become rarer by the end of 2007. A lot of us use our CSLs daily and mine for exapmle will probably just have over 30k miles on it by the end of 2007. It's still a very clean example though. So if a low mileage example by the end of 2007 is commanding 30k then one with 30k miles maybe 27-28K? Then what about the ones not in warranty? Maybe 26kish, and these are clean examples, so tatty examples with no warranty and 30k miles, they would surely be around 24k. I'm hoping mine even with 30k miles will be still worth 27-28k by the end of 2007 and if that is the case I will be well happy.

I'm willing to bet they won't be that low. If they are then your M will be worth £10.
Of course they will be, as pointed out the tattier non warrantied 60k plus milers are bound to prop up the bottom of the market. I'm not for one minute suggesting lower milers with a couple of owners will be the quoted price but lets be realistic here all BMWs depreciate, even M Coupes.

Mind you, when i drove it it was in pretty good nick vs my 911. CSL i bought was better no doubt, but shows these cars are well capable of taking abuse. I think that car is good value for money. Esp if you're planning low miles and it will equalise with mid mileage cars in a year or two. Presumably a few names down the ownership it'll be hard for most to trace it back to P1 too??

I can't think they'll be many (any) 60k milers in 8 months. The norm seems to be <30k at present, and that's after 2-3 years.
The one cheap one (50k miles) is the ex-P1 one being discussed.

Is that the one a certain Mr Hill of Surrey managed to invert?

Don't do it mate!!! Get a proper car, for the same money you can have a nice 964 RS. Then you don't have to deal with clutch problems, the BMW dealer network or get associated with the type of people who have registration numbers like M3 GAY, X5 FAT or M6 SAD....
I've had both, and yes the 964RS is fun but the last time I had one it brought on contractions for the missus and I don't want that to happen again. As a result I've now got grey hair and an 8 year old daughter. I am pleased to say the CSL has not caused any of these pre-child bearing symptoms....So far!!!
The 964RS is now around 15 years old and not a patch on the CSL, but as you imply there is an awful lot less to go wrong.
The only trouble with Porsche's is the people who own them.....Well, the ones that don't have the RS badge on them at least.
