M3 CSL Clutch

Just picked up my CSL, which is mint . It has 24k on the clock and appears not to have had a replacement clutch. I was under the impression they did not last that long?

What are the symptons of one that is slipping. Does/would it do it all the time?

The old benchmark for spotting a slipping clutch is to put the car into a high gear, and accelerate hard up a hill from quite a low speed- you will hear the revs rising faster than the car's speed if its slipping.

Clutch life probably depends on the way it is driven- 24k miles on long extra-urban trips very different to thrashes around tracks and racing starts.

My 330 SSG, admittedly some 130 bhp down on the CSL and a different box, was still going strong on the original clutch at 87k miles.

It's not that it slips, more that the software starts re-engaging slowly which leads to slurring. I had a new clutch and flywheel at 10k miles and there was no wear on the old one. Going in again at 21k miles for a look see, there is a new version of the smg software now, may fix it without a clutch...

As an update - new clutch, flywheel and SMG Ecu fitted 3k miles ago - been fine since.

That's interesting. I just sent my CSL back for a battery check and clutch assessment and it came back with a new battery under warranty and new software which they claim will cure my clutch concerns. It seemed to be slipping slightly in the higher gears.
We shall see what happens when i next use it.

I've had the smg software update which seemed to cure the slurring prob but i have noticed it slipping when changing near red line in 4th-5th-6th! (i do lift off a bit if i notice it)
Bit worried that this could mean that the clutch is toast!?

mine's been into 2 different dealers in lessthan a month and they tell me my clutch is fine, when it is more than obvious that it is not.
I'm getting pretty pi55ed with this slurring clutch issue now and if i don't get a proper resolve then i will be slatting the car back at them on a "Fit for purpose" claim. My car has done 30K and had a new clutch fitted (or so they told me) at 24K. It runs out of warranty in 3 months and there is no way I'll be coughing up for something that is a design fault.
I want:-
Free "bodges" for life.
Proper fix.
Money back.

Can you tell I've had enough????

You may need to search out a 'CSL friendly' dealer like Murketts or Sytners. It sounds like you are getting the usual runaround that most dealers seem to give. I may be able to top your problems though. I bought mine in October last year and took it back to the supplying dealer to get some warranty issues sorted. They took my car in and will have had it almost a full month by the time I get it back at the end of this coming week. Each time I've phoned to check progress, they have told me they are awaiting parts from Germany (but they stripped the car before receiving the parts - go figure!). To say I'm now well and truly f**ked off would be a radical understatement and if they even think about calling me to say there will be further delay, then they will be getting a letter from my solicitor to move their arses!
