I think I've made a huge mistake
Discussion
Under orders of SHMBO, with the imminent arrival of a new car this Christmas, the CSL had to go. I'd always wanted one and nearly got one in 2007 but events changed and I had to wait until 2011 to get my SB CSL.
In the two years of ownership, I'd put on less than 2000 miles a year, but what enjoyable miles they were. I actually thought that the CSL was a better car than my 997 GT3 RS. It felt even more raw and edgy, had an equally ballistic engine note and always felt so 'right'. It was also far easier to slide around at sensible speeds and I really like the front engined, rear wheel drive dynamics of the M3.
I am one of the philistines who love paddles and the SMG gearbox was great fun. It was a million miles from a 'playstation' experience, taking real skill and involvement to get smooth changes.
I really am so gutted that I let it go. What have I done? I've woken up with a terrible sense of remorse.
Let that be a warning to the rest of you!!!

So you drove it 4000 miles. That's not much. Why did you buy it?In the two years of ownership, I'd put on less than 2000 miles a year, but what enjoyable miles they were. Yep, that's the worry I have if I ever decided to move mine on. It would need to be something really special to replace it. Get back into one pronto OP

It's lots if they're quality miles. I don't do much more than that, as it's a car that is wasted in urban areas/motorway/trafficThe CSL must be one of the few cars that everyone seems to regret selling.. Most petrolheads like to 'tick the box' and try certain cars and then move on.. But the CSL seems to leave a very long lasting impression like no other.. Iam waiting with baited breath to pounce on the next suitable one to come up.
i love my csl but have been looking down other lines just because im worried about putting loads of miles on it it takes the edge of the enjoyment of owenership a little i think,
saying that every time i have a country road blast i couldnt imagen having anything else !
if i sold it i would miss it like mad and i dont want to be just another joe driving a 911.

I bought a 997 RS October last year with the intention of selling the CSL at the same time. 14 months on the CSL is still in the garage having covered about 2000 miles in that time. Even next to an orange, roll caged RS with bypass pipe the CSL still feels special on a sunday morning.

No one likes to feel like just another Joe in a 911 do they, nasty business that, I've found the best way to avoid this feeling is to have a CSL as well .. problem resolved..!Edited by RatBoy M3CSL on Sunday 8th December 11:38
