Many people, myself included, are not keen on the SMG 'box in the E46 CSL.

Would it be possible to take a standard M3 or CS & upgrade it to CSL spec or virtually CSL spec? I know you'd end with a car that was neither M3 or CSL & worth less money but if it was a keeper? Or would it be feasible to swap the SMG 'box on the CSL to a manual?

Yes you could turn an CS in to CSL if you could source all the parts,at quite a cost.

As above, its hard to find all the genuine parts other than going to BMW etc.You may find the od airbox, seat, door cards.

your far better off buying a genuine CSL : )

From recent threads on CSLR it seems BMW have stopped producing a lot of the parts, so if they are out of stock thats it. Time for values to really climb.....

Well the rear diffuser is still available, as picked one up last weekend from my local dealers. Going to see if can get the small crack in the old one repaired now, but I know carbon fibre isn't the easiest thing to work with

The ending of production of the front splitters and roof is a bit worrying though. I wonder if people will now stop tracking them as much?

So could you convert a CSL to manual 'box then? Heresy I know but in theory, could it be done?

Yes - CSL>man - can and has been done.

Way better way of doing as I understand. Not cheap though.

Have you actually driven the SMG for a long period of time. I find it really matches the cars character. The M3 manual gearbox is IMO pretty agricultural. As a serial 911 owner, the manual \\M gearboxes are horrid in comparison.

I took my CSL out for a blast yesterday as the roads were clear and the sun shining. The CSL really is the next best thing to a GT3.

I agree. Not driven a GT3, so can't compare on that front, but the SMG box really suits the CSL's character as a sequential manual box rather than an auto.

I hardly ever drive mine in 'D' i drive it as paddle operated clutch-pedal-less manual.
