Hi All

I'm selling my GT3RS to fund a house purchase and was going to get a CSL to replace the Porsche. I've always really liked the CSL and having compared an E46 M3 DSG with a E90 M3 DCT back to back I'm quite ok with the gearbox.

I really don't know what to look for though. There are a few around that have had brake upgrades. I do intend to track the CSL, but only once or twice a year as my weekends are rarely freee.

Is there any advice and has anyone made the move in either direction before?

Try www.cslregister.com

There's a couple of ex-GT3 owners on there as well as one who owns both and prefers the CSL biggrin

Not a GT3RS owner, but drove a 997.1 for a significant amount of time and have a CSL. Any GT3 is a fantastic car, but to free up some cash, the CSL will give you as many smiles!

I have AP alround with Performance Friction front disks with std BMW rears. If you are only going to do a couple of days, then just a fluid change, a proper set of pads and a set of braided hoses will be enough. If you are particular hard on the brakes or your normal circuit has lots of heavy braking with little chance to cool (longish straights etc) and they get spongy, then look around for a second hand set or talk to Thorney Motorsport or Simpsons about a new set.

If new, ask about AP disks, they had a reputation for being made of cheese a while ago. Not sure how good they are now...

PS I'm running RS29 which do squeel a little, but I can live with it...

I have had a CSL for over three years and just got hold of a 996 GT3 although I would have prefered a GT3 RS funds allowing. Possible 'upgrade' to follow in a couple of years. I have kept both as it is my first advent into Porsche.

The AP set up is brilliant and I have to say I find they have a lot better feel - sharper than the Porsche set up. I am not sure on stopping distances yet. It may be my imagination though. The bucket seats are also a lot better than the CSL especially with the six point harness.

I have not had a chance to track the GT3 yet but am looking forward to it. Hopefully in July some time. I am still not completely sold on the CSLs paddle shift but it is effective on track enabling two hands on the wheel at all times. The CSL is of course a lot more useable outside of track ie proper boot, four seats et cetera. This also means you can take four spare wheels/race tyres to the track.

The CSL is obviously a lot less money than the GT3 and more so the RS, sub £30k for a good one. Check out CSLRegister.com
