What to buy?

Hi,could any one give me some advice.I am now selling my lotus esprit.The car is a great car,but needs constant maintenance.Also there is three of us in the family.I thought a bmw m3 convertible smg would be good,but i only know what i have read about the car.Are the cars reliable as what they make out.This would be a second car and enjoyed on weekends.I have a budget of £12,000 to £14,000 so would this get me a good one.Many thanks
