My E39 M5 is fitted with sat nav & cd changer, i have checked & they both have power getting to the units in the boot but for some reason on the screen (facelift widescreen model) in menu mode they are not there so i can only listen to the radio at the moment. Any ideas ?

Cheers Simon.

If it helps, first thought would be the old "MS reset" - unplug the main battery, leave it 20 mins to reset, reconnect & see what you've got? Allows the whole lot to default back to factory settings.

Thanks Neil, when i press the mode button whilst the radio is on it changes to the cd player or tape deck. Obviously i didn't know how to use it properly ! I still don't know how to work the sat nav, the sat nav in the boot doesn't have a cd in it i suspect its supposed to but i never used or had a car with sat nav so know nothing about it !

At least my cd player is ok & now i can connect my DICE ipod kit.

Thanks Simon.

Ah, fair enough.

Yes the Nav system should have a CD or DVD for later models in the boot. What year is your car?

TBH it isnt any good and I have found it only has major roads on installed on it. A Tomtom 720 was £220 and its excellent in comparison. When I set the TT and car sat nav going the car one always takes me on a long, very strange route.

Just removed the cd player & plugged the dice harness in, now the ipod works from the steering wheel controls, great.

Its registered November 2000 X plate on the V5. If the sat nav is not much good do you know if it will play dvd's ?

I'm loving the car though & now i've washed it tbh i think i've really got a goodun its bodywork is so straight & near mint, the front end is almost stone chip free & when i looked through the receipts i see it had the front end painted, bumper, bonnet, blend in wings all done at BMW Scotthall 25k ago just to remove chips !

Thanks Simon.

Its a ipod interface, so i can do away with the cd changer & connect this small unit in its place , the wiring harness is long enough to run to the front of the car & then you have ipod lead you can run into the glovebox/centre console where you can keep the ipod. Plug the ipod into the lead & forget about it as it all works from the normal car controls. I have a similar system in my Volvo V70R but different make, i could not live without an ipod in the car & those Griffin itrip's that go through the radio are rubbish sound quality. So you loose the cd changer but gain a few thousand songs on the ipod.

Sounds great that DICE thing, is there any bugs in it? slow to select between songs or whatever? Do you get song names on the display in the car? It doesn't do anything stupid like stop at 100 songs like i have read on some other ipod/mp3 player interfaces?

Thanks

Matt

Yes it displays song title & artist but only on the smaller display below the mileage on the dash where your mpg etc would come up. On the widescreen it just has track numbers no name. It was only £100 but if you have dsp you need another lead lead for £60 aswell. No bugs as far as i am aware & the sound quality is very good. Just can't see the sense in using a cd player as it just doesn't store enough songs.
