Had car serviced - now rattly/missing when cold?
Discussion
Ask them what oil they used, and check the oil level yourself on the dipstick. When there is a large drum out the back of the workshop with Castrol written on it, why bother going to the expence of getting the proper M oil.
Wonder how much grief the spotty technician gave it on its "essential road test"

I had my car seviced at the weekend - a simple oil change (TWS)
But now, when the car is cold (either in the morning, or after work) the engine rattles, and/or sounds as if it's slightly missing - it never did this before.

I would not worry one iota pal. 2 months ago I bought a 16,000 mile Z4MR from the British dealer network. It rattles like hell for about 2 seconds after turning the engine off. It's just a characteristic of this engine. But now, when the car is cold (either in the morning, or after work) the engine rattles, and/or sounds as if it's slightly missing - it never did this before.

Could, and probably is purely coincidental that it has just had an oil service.
Fouled/failing plug, coil.....
Get your tech friend to run a diagnostic and see what it brings up.
You seem, like many others on this forum, to be resolute in trying to frighten people away from ///M cars. Why?Fouled/failing plug, coil.....

Over my 35 years of owning some 95+ performance cars of extremely high value (before I retired) I have yet to have had an expensive problem. Maybe I have been extremely lucky - but I doubt it. Change your engine oil every 6000 miles, change the gearbox/differential oil every 20,000 miles, change brake/clutch fluid every 12 months ( It's Hydorgopic & absorbs water from the atmosphere). Then know that nothing else will need doing.
However, if you look to buy any ///M car, put your fingers through the wheels & feel the inside/outside of the drilled brake disks. There will ALWAYS be a very slight ridge. If it is an excessive ridge (1mm +) then walk away from the car. It will have been abused by a very young man.
Just my tuppence....

I owned the 2003 Z4 3.0SE AC Schnitzer Motor Show car for a 14 months. It was fitted with 19" 8.5" ACS alloys all round. When I purchased it it had 235/35 fronts & 235/30 rears & handled perfectly.
When the tyres needed replacing I stupidly put 235/35 on the front & squeezed 265/30 on the rear (Falken F451's). Then I could not live with the tramlining. On anything but smooth motorway the car was an accident waiting to happen. DON'T mess with factory fit sizes!! They have been chosen by engineers much more knowlegable than you or I.....

Get your tech friend to run a diagnostic and see what it brings up.

From what I have posted above how can any sane person come to the conclusion that I am trying to "to be resolute in trying to frighten people away from ///M cars."????????????
OP has a mis-fire, so start with the basics, in this cars case that is get a diagnostic run.

"Hydogopic"?????You mean Hygroscopic right?

I had my car seviced at the weekend - a simple oil change (TWS)
But now, when the car is cold (either in the morning, or after work) the engine rattles, and/or sounds as if it's slightly missing - it never did this before.
Thoughts?

I would not worry one iota pal. 2 months ago I bought a 16,000 mile Z4MR from the British dealer network. It rattles like hell for about 2 seconds after turning the engine off. It's just a characteristic of this engine. But now, when the car is cold (either in the morning, or after work) the engine rattles, and/or sounds as if it's slightly missing - it never did this before.

There is a difference........

Took the car back to them today, and it was obvious very quickly what was wrong. One of the mechanics who was helping put the exhaust back on, had wired up the O2 sensors wrong - so one bank wasn't reading correctly. - They put this right, and gave the car a full diag checkover, FOC. Also made me a great coffee.
Sorted.
Thanks for the mad thread-warp, too.
