Just saw some guy looking at my car so i grab keys & run out it it & find this! He was reversing & didnt see it apparently. Admits full responsibility & gives me his details. My insurance company have informed me that there is a good chance that it could be to expensive to repair but surely not looking at the damage. Any thoughts please guys?

It doesnt look bad, but why is your insurance company involved?
I would not touch your own or you will pay an excess and may not get it back so quick. If your renewal is soon you may then have a claim against your policy, so it will go up until its removed. They are crafty beggars!

I have already been told that i have to pay the £300 excess.
I wanted to inform them just incase the other guy denied all knowledge & left me in the lurch.

There are companies like Helphire who do a brilliant job in a clear cut case such as this and dont touch your insurance at all.

He admits responsibility, so you'll be claiming through his insurance. Which means that "too expensive to repair" doesn't come into it. His insurance company can't write-off your car against your wishes. You have the right to have it repaired and you don't have to take it to their approved bodyshop either.

Hi,

My neighbour cuffed my car a couple of weeks back and I asked BMW to quote for a repair. To give you an idea of the severity, it was only on the wing not the bumper and was, ooh, about the size of a 50p piece. BMW quoted.....wait for it....£690!

I spoke to them and said " are you sure thats right? I dont even think the paint is damaged?"

BMW - "yes, thats right"

P - "so is that for a new wing?"

BMW - "no sir, not at that price. If you're not going through insurance, we can offer you a discount on that"

P - "OK,....my neighbour is paying for it, so can you let me know the price?"

A couple of hours later, BMW called "sorry Sir, whoever did the quote knew you were not going through insurance and that price includes our discount"

I gently T-cut the damage out and it is almost 100%. I need a bit of PDR and it'll be spot on.

I guess the rather long winded point I'm trying to make is dont underestimate how much that might be to repair, especially if you chose to use a BMW garage.

Edit - to show pic

If he has admitted full responsibility for the damage it should not effect your no claims and def should not pay the £300 access.

Apparently my insurance company have informed a salvage company to pick my car up as its a total loss! Cant beleive that some numpty has come to this decision without even ANYONE looking at my car. I am seriously hoping that this is some kind of late April fools prank because i am not happy at all. Currently waiting to hear back from them to explain there actions.

I've got damage on the same panels (but not half as bad) from a similar incident a few weeks ago.
No details were left for me furious

BMW have sent through a quotation that amounts to £1,900........ They also gave me the phone number of someone who can do it for about £200.

Hide the car away from the salvage company, go and see a bodyshop and get a proper estimate, approach the guy directly and ask if he wants to pay cash.

I'd expect that to be well under £1000 at a decent (non-BMW) bodyshop.

Sorry to see your car is damaged,But can i ask why you have involved your Insurance company?
Surely you should of taken your car to a body shop with the other guys details and left it to them to sort. If he has admitted blame to his insurance they will tell yours that you are not at fault.

Sorry but it looks like you've backed along a wall imho.
What was the other guys car? as there is no paint on yours.

Someone ran into the back of my car and I claimed on my insurance - they handled the whole thing, isn't that why you have fully comp insurance? They waived the excess too.

The other parties insurer called but wouldn't speak to me as it was wifey who was driving at the time (even though it's my car and my insurance) so told them to sod off.

The damage was done by a small trnsit reversing. His black bumper has scuffed my car with very little damage to his van.
My insurance company have called me back & agreed for an Engineer to come out Thursday to asses the damage before they decide wether or not its a total loss.

Apparently they based it on the age of the vehicle & nothing more!
Book value to them is practically nothing, hence they could still write it of.
Just been for a quote & even the Engineer there said he would be amazed if they do write it of because of that damage.

They are Zenith by the way through Swinton. Swinton have been great through all this & they are the only people who have made any sense throughout this.

From what i can see the damage would be a little over your excess of £300 to repair properly , so how can it be a write off ??? confused

Wife hit the drive gates a few weeks back in the snow ,minimal damage.
Were told its a CAT C! I said about the same as above to the wife ,she told the insurance she was taking it to get it repaired herself & they told her she could not as it was now on the register & would need a Vic test to get it back on the road he also said that they owned the car now . If she wanted to keep the car then they would deduct 25% off the final settlement, if it was a Cat D then it would have been 15% off!

So that would amount to fraud as it is a "written off" car
