Aston Martin V8 vantage sold - E36 M3 Evo bought!!!
Discussion
I've always had a soft spot for the E36 M3 Evo, this is my second now. It took me along time to find the right car, totally standard / 1 owner / Estriol blue / manual / cream leather / low miles / complete history / same tyres all round and for some strange reason I was adamant the original standard stereo was still fitted.
I still love the way the car drives after all these years. It feels tighter and more mechanical than even the E92 M3 that I had. The E92 certainly has a smoother gearchange and lighter clutch which detracts alot of appeal from the car for me. The car was fitted with a short shifter from new which really does help improve the feel of the car.
The car has already been treated to a full detail inside and out. Infact its getting better treatment than the Aston ever got. After searching for months I realised that a perfect 98 reg E36 M3 Evo is slowly becoming more expensive than a 01 reg E46 M3. I'm guessing its all down to there being so few good examples left out there. For me there really wasn't anything else I would want to own for the same sort of money.
As with all M3's it loves to be revved, it definitely seems to have a more distinctive kick when it hits 4500 rpm over the E46. I'm guessing this is something to do with the vanos unit. Again people probably prefer the smoother delivery of the E46.
I'm averaging low 30's to the gallon and with the added bonus of cheaper road tax the car really seems an all round bargin.

Pictures will indeed follow although i'm at work overseas at present.
The mpg is indeed taken from the onboard computer so maybe a little suspect but i've no reason not to beleive it. The onboard computer brings a rise smile to my face when i think of all those separate buttons it has, modern versions are all run by just one :-) normally found on the indicator stalk. Bring back the nineties!!!!

I adored my E36 M3 Evo and like you I sought out a mint Estoril Blue example (many years ago now)
I loved that car, and as it was my first really fast car I respect it dearly!
My only qua rm with the car was that I insisted on having all the extra's, which sadly included the wood trim, which never really grew on me! lol
Enjoy!

Have to agree regarding the E36 being a gem of a car. I was looking for an 840 Sport when I stumbled across my M3 Evo saloon. I thought ''never driven one before, so why noy go have a look!'' Sugar! Well smitten with it! I didn't want a coupe as my wife runs a mint E36 328i Sport and I love the practicallity of having 4 doors (kids!)
Mine is also a Estoril blue. I haved spent a samll fortune on freshening the car up, new bushes, dampers, springs, interior, the list goes on. Kind of thinking that these will appreciate in value soon, once all the crap is out of the way! It can and has achieved 42mpg (after remap) at a steady 50-60mph! Better than my 750iL!
They have as much performance as you can safely use on the roads of Britain these days.
I ran an E30 Evo 2 a few years back and that was fantastic as a ''toy'' But as an everyday performance car you'll be hard pushed find a everyday performance car for so little cash!
I'm running mine down to the Nurburgring in May for some spectating. I was going to take 750iL for the 1500 mile round trip but that would be and insult to the M3! After all it's nice for a car like the M3 to return to it's spiritial home. Angd the fact it'll do 10 more mpg on a run! I'm a tight Scotsman afterall.
Stevie.

Stevie 32, thats a very nice looking M3, keep hankering for a M3 Saloon my self but ended up with a 330I Sport saloon so its just as well I have the M3 EVO Coupe to make up for it. I found mine of a guy from Birmingham last year who cleaned it to within an inch of its life and Ive been cleaning it ever since its pristine and all standard so its my weekend motor and great fun and getting it ready for the trip down to Lemans next month. Had much newer cars but you just cant beat these for the money plus its only like to go up in value HAPPY DAYS

If the guy I bought it off is on online then drop me a line.
