Due to book the recently purchased E60 M5 in for the plugs and a vehicle check...

Now the plugs are going to be approx £330... rolleyes no surprise there...

But the 'vehicle check' which is about £120....what gets done there then?

At main dealers yes, still under warranty so want to keep the BMW only service history knowing my history of changing cars as often as my underwear!!!

Nearly 37k miles on mine...

Just wondered what £120 goes to the stealer to check exactly....

The M5 has NGK plugs in it I believe. Go to GSF and buy them, I think they're around £20 each

Plugs directly from BMW are about £17 but then there's the fitting hence £330 all in....just booked it in for monday though and agreed £380 for the plugs and vehicle check....

Just think the vehicle check bit is a bit of a con....will ask what they actually do!!

They intially wanted £474 but even BMW servicing is up for haggling now laugh

Could prob have got it cheaper but wanted to get it booked it with my favourite dealership....

Why do the plugs need doing on their own? Wouldnt that be done at the Insp 2 whenever it was/is?

I think the vehicle check I have heard be called a 'health check' where they will go over the car, check levels, tyres, bushes etc and make you spend more money.
If you put your BMW into the dealer for just an oil change they wont even lift it onto ramps. They will put a tube down into the engine and suck out the engine oil - to save time.
If you taken them up on the offer of this check then they will raise the car up and change the oil properly, ie throught the sump.

Personally I wouldnt pay for any sort of a check, my specialst does this anyway every service and creates a list of recommended future items that need attention.

If your car has only recently been bought from a dealer I thought they gave it a 'rigourous'check before it is sold as an AUC.

Another thing, I'm fairly sure that the M5 has platinum tipped spark plugs which are guaranteeds for upto 50,000 miles I believe. Its worth asking to see the old plugs when they take them out of the car, that as well seeing what these 'vehicle checks' are too.

The CBS has stated the plugs need doing along with a vehicle check at same time...

It was an AUC car in May this year and I bought it of the previous owner via a garage about 4 weeks ago so seeing as a vehicle check is due at same time as plugs(oil not due for 8k miles yet), I just fancy it being done this time by the stealer, but will probably use a specialist in the future when the stat inspection comes up...

Just sussed the stat inspection is the MOT!!! May as well take it BMW for this next year seeing as it has MOT insurance anyway!!

Does the E60 M5 not have Inspection 1/Inspection 2 services or is it all just done via the CBS?

Just looked in the service book at the Vehicle check....jeez...could do it myself!!
