Hi,

the Vanos in my 2000 M5 is getting a tiny bit rattley. The car has done 100k now, it's by no means a big problem but I keep the car pretty much perfect so would like to keep on top of this.

I popped it into my local specialist who confirmed one bank was worse than the other and the price per bank was approximatley 3k. They haven't done an M5 vanos before so were quoating from the BMW martix, I think about 35 hours per bank.

Can anyone advise a price they have paid for this work. I want to get both but at least 1 of the banks done. I don't fancy paying 6k for this work, especially considering the price E39 M5's are going for at the minute!

Cheers, Richard.

The book time for both is circa 20 hour (just slightly over)

So the labour is £700 at my rate + the parts + VAT

I think your probably looking at £3-£4K for both banks

And just because they are noisy doesn't mean that they are on their way out.

On the M5board there is a thread on changing only the solenoids (cheap) and not the entire Vanos, to limit vanos noise (look for Andy777)

3-4k, that sounds much better. I think I'd proably go for it at that price.

Cheers for the posts, I'll give it some thought.

Depending upon your location there are a number of specialists who can clarify and rectify your VANOS issue at way less than £5 K.
