hi all, just wanted sum advice, im in the market for buying an e60 m5, just wanted to know what to look out for when i go to view one,
Might go an look at a grey one with full merino leathers 37k miles advertised for £28000, is that right price.
also is warranty a big issue...

Go and get a quote for a new gearbox. Just the box, no labour.

Where from ? A breaker or a main stealer ? I think we are all aware of prices charged by BMW but then I've experienced good will and other individuals fixing these problems without major expense over the years I've had mine.

Sure you can buy one without a warranty but why on earth would you? Even at the new bargain prices it is still 28k - 30k you are risking.

Also, it will protect what is left of the residuals.

And as I keep saying to people, they are now cheap (relatively) but they still have the running costs of a 65k car - so if you really need to scrimp when buying one you are really looking down the barrel of financial ruin.

The e60 M5 is a technical marvel and is probably one of the most complex cars around and anything going wrong is likely to be costly.

Go and buy one from the dealers, 12 months piece of mind.

OK, try and find one from a breakers, then get someone to fit it, find out, that it is also fked and start all over again. Possibly of course but you see my point.

How much would an Indi charge to fit one?
How many Indis know how to fit one?

Yes you can pay for an aftermarket warranty. But it will be worthless, so you pay for the privilege of no cover.

You can buy the BMW warranty for a car you buy privately but I think it's about £2500.

Getting fed up of repeating myself on this warranty topic, as long as the car has a full service history then you can buy a BMW insured warranty for about £1250 with no excess, please do call BMW customer services as I did to confirm this.

Its a shame they don't have that info on line. BMW warranty on M cars has certainly changed since it was a mere 500 quid 5 years ago.

They must have changed this in the past month or so then. My warranty expired on 18th September, and the letter I recieved from BMW made it very clear that if I intended to renew, then it must be done on or before that date. If I went beyond the 18th, even by a day, then the warranty could not be renewed under any circumstances

If you're not bothering with a decent warranty what you need is a 996 porsche, the engine only cost about 12k if it blows up (or just go out and buy another!), bargain compared to these pesky M5 gearboxes/diffs without a decent warranty it seems .
