M3 E92 American Date format

I've only just noticed after a year of ownership that the date on the idrive shows it in the american format of month/day/year.

I've not yet found out how to change it (i'll dig the handbook out tonight), but will it alter the mpg readings (as an american gallon is different from a uk gallon)?
