Hi all,

Forgive me if this topic has been discussed before. However, my gorgeous M3's exhaust is on it's last legs (well not quite), what with speed bumps and the like it has taken a battering over the years and my fabulous mechanic friend has patched it up many times.

I think it is time to bite the bullet and get a new one. It is a 1990 2.3.

> Should I get a whole system?
> Just replace the battered bits (mainly the back box)?
> Which type? Milltek, SuperSprint (other?).

Not too bothered about extra BHP, although that would be nice.

But really just the best value, the one that will be best for the car and the most authentic, as I believe (although I may be wrong) that BMW (OEM) do not do a replacement?

I have a Miltek which has been fine. Early ones were prone to cracking due to the harshness of the 4 cylinder engine and being stainless steel - at under £500 quid a good system that isn't too loud, but being a single pipe design reduces ground clearance.

Go to www.s14power.com , as there is a thread where Piper (I think) are asking for input into the design of an e30 m3 exhaust.

Be careful if you go for a bespoke exhaust - without the X pipe design (or Y if single pipe) just aft of the downpipe you can lose serious power and torque....ask me how I know.....

Hey MarkM3Evoplus,

Thanks for the link, I checked out the forum on the exhaust from Piper and I think it may be just the ticket. There certainly seems to be plenty of input from both road and track guys for it's development. So it seems as though it could be a great (and possibly better) alternative to the ones currently on offer. I will express an interest and see how the numbers stack up.

Regards

I used to have a super sprint system on my e30 m3, it was a fair few years ago now though and things no doubt move on. It wasnt loud though. I also remember being told to make sure you get a system with the x over in the pipe too.

same here when I had mine, I think mine was the mild stainless one, it was TUV approved and had the x over pipe, I thought it was excellent, loud when you wanted it to be and quiet when cruising, chose mild as, at the time, the full stainless ones were cracking...

Had a Miltek that split in several places, they replaced it with another modified part which also split. I won't go back there.
Had an Eisenmann ( think ££££ ) back box of the standard BMW front half and it sounded the best ever. I sold it about 5 years ago when the front half rotted away and I bought that stupid Miltek.....

TBH the best exhausts are the OEMs

if you can, just replace the part you need - it will be expensive but it'll be worth it

whatever you do decide make sure it has the crossover pipe - if not, you'll lose 10-15 bhp
