Took my car for a service last week at a main dealer in London, collected my car when dark and didnt really look it over. Next morning I noticed a number of hairline crack in the front bumper of my car (e46 m3 convertible). Took it round dealers this afternoon and they claim that the cracks may have been there before and caused by a dent on the wing which may have warped the bumper and caused the cracks. As such they will only pay around 50% of the costs of a replacement bumper despite the fact that when they took the car in they inspected the car and noted down all dents and scratches. The service manager claims they may not have spotted the cracks as it was wet. Should I just accept the 50% payment or take it further??

Are you 100% sure they did it??

The answer to that is the answer to your question here.

yes 100% sure, problem is i drove it home and noticed it next morning. They dont seem to dispute that it didnt happen after I took it away but that it was done before I took it in

Surely if they're offering to pay 50% with little haggle, they must be accepting some liability. I cant see why they'd offer 50% if they aren't. I'd fight it all the way till they pay 100%.

Coukd the damage have happened between the time you got home and saw it in the morning ?
Assuming your car was parked on the road at some point.

possibly but very unlikely, where I park it is very unlikely that a car could reverse into it unless they were doing it on purpose. Also its more like stress fractures rather than a impact crack, almost as if something was dropped or the bumper was bent for some reason

Tell the BMW Dealer that you will contact BMW Customer Services - they accepted the car and checked the condition of it. Blaming the rain is not acceptable as an excuse, we live in the UK it rains get used to it. The dealers procedures should be able to deal with rain or snow .

The fact they are offering 50% immediately shows they know what happened
