What trackday tyres for E36 M3 Evo do you recommend ?
Discussion
Had my M3 Evo a year now but only managed to get to Castle combe once this year but the car was still on 100,000 mile standard stuff !
Now have eibach arb's, poly bushes,Performance friction brakes, braided hoses, 5.1 fluid, new shocks & springs but original genuine ones as still want a good ride on the road, uprated rear top mounts.
Just bought a spare set of the staggered M3 wheels for trackdays. I have used R888's before on a Cosworth i had before & they were superb amazing grip & lasted about 5 trackdays. Is their a tyre that is better suited to the M3 ? Reading things about the Yoko A048 advans they seem a good tyre but are more expensive, what about dunlop race super sport tyres ? Anyone who uses R888's on the M3 what sizes are you using as i can't find a 245/40/17 listed for the rear.
Cheers Simon.

Well, as any trackday tyre is going to be next to useless in the wet, why not go for a set of slicks? You can get a used set for around £100 from Ebay, and they should give more grip than a set of R888s.
The only downside is apparently some organisers will not let you out with them unless you have a cage (never seen this enforced) and they put a bit more stress on the suspension components due to the higher forces they generate.
Just my 2p.

Try 255/40/17 for the rears, that's what I have on mine with no issues. I'm currently on Pzero Corsas, seem good tyres but probably pricey to buy (they came with the car). I have a new set of R888's waiting to go on when the Corsas are dead.

After reading the above I might try Kumho's next.

They work the best Designed for spec C scoobies and may say they are 225 but they look as wide as 235 from others and they are a great tyre for wear and grip. Car is well balanced with them. Understeer is reduced dramatically.I raced my E36 in the Combe saloons (List 1a tyres only) and everyone used them. I had all sorts before them.
In the end i bought some half worn Michelin pilot sport cups for the rear & some Kumho V700A for the front from e-bay. Again ones that have about half their life left if not more as they still have about 4mm & probably only have about 5mm from new. Under a £100 for the whole lot so might have saved me a bit of money hopefully, but i know how dodgey it can be to buy used tyres ! They won't even see the road though.
