Good idea? Been looking at the Milltek ones, possibly with a Milltek backbox too, but have no idea how much of a difference the cats alone make to noise and performance.
Performance cats down to 100cels are going to have the biggest performance improvement over any other part in the exhaust and a very small increase in noise, try Junction 21 on ebay ( think that's their name ) if you want to fit yourself , which I don't recommend as the removal / replacement of the oxygen sensors can be a real bugger or go to TMS or simpsons if you want someone else to have joy.Dan,
Hi cell cats were the single biggest performance improvement I made to my Evo.
I actually did it for the noise (which was a mildly successful excercise in itself) but after a couple of weeks I could really feel the car pulling harder.
With the cats, my Evo was able to out-accelerate an E46 M3 at Bruntingthorpe. Charlie (Vixpy) will confirm this as it was his car and he was driving. Only other modifications were a Scorpion exhaust, air filter and a Superchip (biggest waste of £300 I've ever spent).
Definately worth doing

I have an M3 Evo and would be interested in finding how you get on.
That said I purchased a full Milltek manifold back system for my Z4 3.0 inc 100 cell cats. Cost £1100 and was an utter waste of money. I had a dyno before and after, 1.4bhp was the peak power increase, with an increase of around 1.8bhp midrange, couldn't even tell the difference. Of course the M3 Evo may be different, but get a Dyno before and after, it's the only way to confirm power increase.
Just my experience, perhaps a custom build like ASBO has, although they were expensive from memory, Simon??

At about £500 they were a grand cheaper than a branded one:That said I purchased a full Milltek manifold back system for my Z4 3.0 inc 100 cell cats. Cost £1100 and was an utter waste of money. I can confirm that the exhaust sounds healthy
The cats I had fitted and fabricated were custom made by a local chap who fits roll cages and makes exhausts etc.
Total cost was just over £400 IIRC. Very reasonable I thought.
Makes a huge difference too.
Dan, for reference, all the sensors (of which there are two I believe) are located ahead of the cats so you've no worries there.
