wondering if anyone had heard of an M5 conversion - and if so what MPG they got out of it- potential pitfalls, etc - and if they had one for sale....! cheers, Jon

No is the simple answer!

See how I got shot down for even thinking it on Mtorque, plus its £2800 for the conversion - you are never going to make that back, especially with the massive depreciation it will take as soon as you fit it!

i don't think its such a bad idea, most of the people that would don't do 20-25k a year miles... personaly i would break even after less than 18 months on the fuel saving alone

It's sacrilege for one thing and potentially unwise for such a performance orientated engine.

I recall it being mooted before, to which the response was that the LPG would damgage the engine.

If fuel consumption really is a problem, why not buy a diesel?

err.. because they suck?

whats wrong with having the best of both worlds? sacrilege IYO maybe, okay if there a technical reason not to do it then fair enough, but not to do it becuase of what some folks on an internet forum say is just daft!

how many miles do you do in your M5 a year?

I think one of the biggest concerns would be that when LPG gains enough popularity - surely inevitable in view of the fuel prices - the taxation on it will change to make up for the subsequent shortfall on tax income from petrol.

If that happens before you've recovered the costs of the conversion you're going to be out of pocket with no way of recovering the expense.

The Jonathon Palmer cars are all LPG converted from memory, and they spend all their lives being thrashed round a track...

Not sure about converting an M-Car but i've seen a couple of 540i and 535i that have had the work done and run on for '000 of miles with no problems.
