I bought some from one of the stalls at Gaydon the other week for £20, they look very smart (better than just a bare plate). I think I'm right in saying the surrounds are legal but the German style number plates (on the link above) are not.

I think the poster above was questioning the legality of the LED messages. At least they've paid lip service to the rules by saying you *can* connect them to come on with the brake lights. It used to be that any sort of 'animated' lights were illegal, but I see the Lambo Reventon and LP-540 now have these sequential 'pointers' as brake lights.
