DIAGNOSTIC SOFTWARE FOR SNAP ON SCANNER... HELP NEEDED

Carrying on from my post the other day..

my dad has a snap on scanner tool and has loads of software with it apart from one to suit my car. It fits his x5 but not my e36 m3 evo.


I have got the connector plug for under the bonnet but went to use it tonight and the scanner tool couldn't communicate with the car, Also tried on my mates e36 325 and it didnt work.


I'm just woundering wether anyone knows what communication chip i need as i desperatly want to get my car back on the road.
